Brown Thumb

September12

I have killed 2 of my new herb plants in record time. I bought them 6 days ago at the grocery store. They looked perfectly happy and healthy. I was excited to have some fresh herbs again. I put them in bigger pots. I watered them. I loved them. And what do they do? They croak. Look at this:

The basil looks okay but the parsley and rosemary are done for. I’ll admit that I’ve killed parsley before – but never in 6 days. And I didn’t know you could kill rosemary – my rosemary plants have always been so happy in the past. Just to prove that I don’t kill everything I touch, I repotted these 2 plants the same day and they are perfectly happy:

(Cathie if you are reading this, that is the tiny little plant you gave me the first Easter Steve and I were together.)

In other news, it was a gorgeous day in Nashville today! Sabrina and I took advantage of it and went to the park. Sabrina decided she was a big fan of the swing.

I think those grocery store herbs have a one week shelf life. I can’t keep them alive much more than that either. I DO have other LIVE green plants in my house…but unfortunately they are not edible.

    She is SO freakin cute!

I planted the grocery store herbs in the ground and they grew, but I planted them in pots and they did not do nearly as well, Atleast you have the basil…basil is the most versatile anyway. I think it’s SO TASTY!!

Are you guys going to eventually buy a house or are you waiting for your old house to sell? I assume you waiting for it to sell, who’s made of money.

I have killed more of those potted herbs than I care to count. I’ve planted them outside in bigger pots and I still can’t keep herbs alive.

She is so cute in the swing! Gabriella is a big fan too, but it’s still waaaay to hot here for the park.

I can’t keep anything alive. In fact, I tell people all the time that I have the ability to kill fake plants.

Sabrina is just too freaking cute!!!!

Happy belated Birthday! Those swing pics are great! She is getting cuter and cuter! As far as the plant thing. I can’t help you there. I would have killed them all.

IF you were closer I would give you more basil and rosemary than you could use. I cant even put my arms around the plants they are so big. The rosemary Ive had in a pot for about 5 years and it needs a serious haircut. The basils are in my herb garden going bonkers. I wish I could grow cilantro tho. It goes to seed so fast and never really does much for me.

Like Tonya, I can’t grow cilantro. I try every year and every year it dies. I LUV LUV cilantro 🙁 so I am always disappointed.

I hate house plants. As a result, I can’t kill the little suckers if I try.

You may have a brown thumb but apparently I have a black thumb of death. I once killed a bamboo plant. It is a rule in our house that I do not touch/look at/speak to any type of plant or living thing. One time we had a spider plant that was thriving and I moved it to clean the shelf that it was on…it was dead one week later. You think that I am kidding, I’m not. I just thank God that the dog and the kid are still alive and to be honest the dog is looking a little green.

I didn’t think you could kill parsley. Anyway, you’re a better mom than a gardener, and that’s a good thing!
