Memo Monday

March17

Dear Ebay sellers:

I understand that the cost of shipping items has risen but let’s be reasonable here.  I am consistently finding that with your high starting bids and ridiculous shipping costs I could buy a similar item for less in the store on the sales rack and I could touch it and try it on before purchasing it.  Why would you believe that charging $10.00 to put one shirt in a manilla envelope is going to generate bids?

We have been happy together for many years.  It has been a win-win relationship.  You get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore and make a little cash.  I get stuff that I don’t need and save some money.   Why are you messing with our happy formula?

Signed,

Disappointed Frugal Girl who doesn’t want to spend a bunch of $$ on covering her expanding self

Dear PayPal:

I think it was rather sneaky of you to change my debit mastercard to echeck option without notifying me so that you could save the $.03 credit card fee.  I keep forgetting to change it back and had 3 transactions that I had to wait 7 days for the “check” to clear before my items were shipped.  Today when I remembered to change it back to credit card, you tried to talk me out of it.  I understand it is cheaper for you but it is more of a hassle for me and the sellers if we have to wait for funds to clear.  And we all love you for your hassle free transactions.  So knock it off or I’ll find another money man.

Signed,

The pregnant lady with not a lot to wear so don’t hold up my clothes while my “check” clears

I don’t buy much on ebay anymore for that very reason. Padding your earnings by charging a ton for shipping? Shame on them.

I am ALSO sick and tired of the constantly rising shipping costs! It’s outrageous! It has made me stop shopping on Ebay at all. Even if you get a great deal it’s not so great after you pay $6.oo and up for shipping. ARGHHHHHH!

I know what you’re talking about. I have one nipple that my son loves. I can’t find any, but found some on ebay (new). They’re like 2 something for 2 nipples, not bad, but shippig is over $6. That’s crazy, they’re small and light. I know it doesn’t cost anywhere near that to ship them. Gonna have to keep trying to get him to use another nipple.

Oh I hope you weren’t the one that outbid me on eBay last night for a slew of Maternity clothes!

Eh- actually, if it was you, I’d be forced to laugh and congratulate you instead of be all grudge like.

And Pay Pal is on my ‘On Notice’ list myself.

Yeah, I can’t believe the shipping and “handling” charges that have become so ridiculous on there anymore. People are nuts if they pay overpriced shipping. I figure the cost of my bid plus the cost being charged for shipping and if it’s more expensive than buying in an actual store, I won’t bid on it. The one exception is if I cannot buy it in a store…ie: my Wii…sigh.

Do you have any good thrift stores around you? I can usually find some maternity stuff there.
And I had the best luck with the old navy and gap sales that they run all the time. Their Tshirts and capris got me through most situations.

PS those ebay sellers are jerks about postage. They don’t want to inflate the starting bid so they just toss an extra charge in the shipping fee. Really turns me off to the whole Ebay thing.

John’s laptop battery died and he was shopping for a new one on ebay. Most of the sellers wanted like $20 for shipping! Ridiculous. He finally got one that had $10 shipping… Even so, my parents were able to mail it to the person bringing it to us in Guatemala for a mere $5. I like the new option ebay has where you can sort results by price+shipping.
