Teaching my children to question authority, except mine.

this and that

July21

Does anyone else think the sloth on It’s a Big Big World (PBS Kids) is a big pot head?

**********

Someone asked if the next door neighbor had cut that strip in his yard that abuts our fence. I looked on Saturday because I hadn’t noticed. The answer was no.  Then my hubby was out with the dog yesterday and said that the neighbor had finally cut it.  So yes, it is gone now.

**********

Someone else asked for a full on nursery shot of Tessa’s room now that it is done. Honestly, I’ve shown her crib and her dresser – there isn’t anything else to see. Her room is nursery/guest room so in addition there is a queen size bed and a night stand. I haven’t put anything on her walls yet. She will be sleeping in our room in the bassinet for awhile so I haven’t even bothered with a mobile yet.

***********

One thing I will miss about pregnancy – my nails are growing like crazy (I have to cut them back because they get too long) and my hair never falls out (as opposed to the large handful I lose each day when not pregnant). I hear I will lose all of my hair after giving birth and I’m sure the nails will go back to normal.  Look at these bad boys – with no effort on my part:

************

I finally found a diaper bag that I think will work and that I like the looks of:

The couple I used for Sabrina were either too small to accommodate 2 children or I had already decided I disliked for other reasons.  I didn’t use one with her for very long once we returned home from Guatemala.  I just kept a bag with couple of diapers and wipes in the car in case I needed them.  The bag I liked best was barely big enough for just her when I was using it.  And another that I had and loved in theory was a backpack then I discovered how impossible it was to access a back pack while juggling a small child.  It was also incompatible with the sling/carrier I used.

This one (found it on Ebay) has lots of pockets and places to stow things and is cute but not so cute that Steve will feel emasculated carrying it.

*************

My current pregnancy food obsession is peanut butter.  Specifically, peanut butter on graham crackers and chocolate peanut butter ice cream.  This is my last week to eat that kind of crap – then I’m going to have to start trying to undo the damage that has been done.

*************

Sabrina has suddenly decided to start adding words to her vocabulary.  She has been repeating things we say after months of refusing to even try.  She has started putting together 2 word sentences – hi mommy, hi puppy, ride car, etc.  Sometimes, I don’t know where the words come from.  Last week I was holding her and she was rubbing my tummy saying “Nana” (her word for baby) and then started poking my chest saying “boob”.  Lovely.

*************

I find myself counting down the days I have left alone with Sabrina.  It makes me much sadder than I would have guessed.  We have 4 days left alone then we have the weekend with daddy home and abuela arriving.  I wish I had more energy so that we could go out and do things for this last week.  But it is 98 here and showering and dressing seems to be as ambitious as I get right now.

************

Seriously, that sloth has a big old bong behind the tree.  He’s totally stoned and eating Doritos off camera.

Sloth is DEFINETLY a pothead! I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed. I found myself noticing something wasn’t right with him. I thought it was just my imagination, who would make a kids channel based on a pothead sloth? A very sappy song too. All he needs is an acoustic guitar and I’ll feel like I’m back in college at those dull pothead parties. I’d much rather listen to any music blasting through the stereo than a sappy acoustic guitar.

Forgot to mention, it must be hard only having a few days of alone time with Sabrina. I can understand. Things will change but it will be wonderful to see her love her new sister. I can’t wait to meet your new baby through blogworld. Always love your posts.

Did Steve notice the camo is pink on that bag?

Thanks Michelle! Just as I’m getting ready to fall into bed you have to remind me of what takes nearly all day to get out of my mind (that SONG)! AND…now I want doritos…and peanut butter…and I’m not even pregnant. Thanks alot!

Seriously though….enjoy your last few days alone with Sabrina, even if they are spent indoors away from the 98 degree heat.

Funny–that sloth does have a certain mellow quality to his voice.

Oh yea, total pothead. Haaaaaayyyyy. How ARE youuuuuuu? A stoned sloth. Heh. Now that’s funny.

DANG-look at those nails! I am impressed. I can’t grow them to save my life.

I know these next few days are going to be a bit rough. But just think how special that you’ll be able to do “Mommy and Sabrina” time after Tessa comes. I think that will make it even BETTER!

That is too funny – everytime the kids watched that show, that’s all I could think! His mellow, big world, peace attitude is completely high.

I’m so jealous on the peanut butter – I used to LOVE it – eat it with all the things you mentioned, or just by the spoonful – esp the early months of nursing. But I think I must have over done it. I noticed about two years ago that everytime I ate it, I felt sick after. First I thought maybe I’d eaten too fast, but long story short, now if I eat it, I’m REALLY sick. It’s been really hard not having it for this 3rd pregnancy. I miss it and almond/cashew butter is nothing like it. The closest thing creamy thing is a healthy nutella, but that it just plain dessert – minimal protein there.

off and running but you KNOW I love the bag.
and am jealous of the nails.

I was craving chocolate peanut butter icecream the other day, but the store that has the best was sold out. I settled for chocolate with chocolate fudge swirl…

Toddlers are so funny with the words they say. My belly button has popped (about 2 months ago actually) and Alayna calls it a boobie all the time. It’s hilarious…I correct her, but everytime she pokes it, it’s still the same.

I’ve got to watch that show!!!

I remember the perks of pregnancy, good nails and tons of thick hair. Just a note that I did not loose any hair, and actually it has gotten thicker, so you never know. Now, we won’t discuss the ramifications of breast feeding here for the whole world to read—let’s just say I didn’t get the better end of that deal!!!

Enjoy these last days with Sabrina. In a week it is going to look like she doubled in size, and she will seem so much older. Yeah for words. Wish Reese would do more!

That sloth is such a stoner! Really, who approved that character for a kids show?

Enjoy your last little while as a family of 3. I remember being so bummed out the week before I had Parker b/c I felt like we were “losing” our little family of 3. But in this case, change is very good, and you will love having a family of 4 😉

Wish you had written about your diaper bag search…just sold my brown Skip*Hop bag on EBay for ridiculously low price – I would’ve given it to you! I loved that bag – 11 pockets and hooks to the stroller handle.
Yeah for words – we’re still stuck on bye-bye (any vehicle), mama, ME! (always with emphasis in case I’ve finally gone deaf from the screaming) and last week ELBOW. Thank goodness for the few baby signs she knows or I’d be screaming right along with her. (I’m not going to admit I already am publicly)
Enjoy these last few days of Sabrina time. Have you tried playdough yet? C loves to use the cookie cutters. She’s even still for 3 minutes to play with it.

We went up to my husband’s parents’ lake place and the only thing that got me motivated to pack the car, park two kids in their car seats for 3 hours and then put up with his parents idiocy for 3 days was the fact that they have an ice cream store that has the world’s BEST chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Love it! Do you think the babies will want it in real-life form immediately after being born?

I was seriously sad at the thought of Julia not being an only child anymore, but I realize now that she LOVES being a big sister. I am worried about making Cecilia a middle child so soon after she got home, but maybe she will love being a big sister too. Hard to tell and hard to manage the emotions!

We’ve been calling Snook a stoner since the first time we saw that cartoon. And Bob the anteater gets on my last damn nerve. He’s so freaking whiney and insecure.

Good luck with the final prep for Miss T’s arrival!!

That’s actually why we love that show around here, btw. 😉

Also, Braden started in with the “boob” thing not long ago, too. I’m pretty amused. Heh.

  18. On July 22nd, 2008 at 8:09 pm Gibb Says:

Actually, six years later my nails are still much stronger and grow way faster than they did pre pregnancy. And it took a while for my hair to start falling out again. I think all the time I was nursing it still didn’t fall out and then after that it slowly started.
