Teaching my children to question authority, except mine.

Blissdom ’09

February6

I’m at Blissdom ’09 this weekend struggling to start conversations without a small cute child to use as a social crutch.  It is much harder than I remember.  I used to even be kind of good at it.  Socially awkward would be the phrase of the day!

I’ll be back next week with all sorts of pithy comments about things I observed while lurking in dark corners or standing uncomfortably on the fringes of groups or spending a questionable amount of time in the ladies room to avoid standing alone during breaks between sessions.  Or I could take a flask and be the hit of the party!

Oooh…you just described my experience with conferences. LOL at the ladies room trick – totally do that too. Be thankful though, that you did not have to do what I did at my last conference. The guy I had been seeing decided to dump me over MSN on night #1 of the conference, and then on day #2, I totally glommed on to the one person I knew there (total fluke) and became ‘that girl that never goes away and also shares WAY too much about her personal life.’ I haven’t been to a conference since, actually…hmmmm…

If you hear Jen Lancaster speak – I want to know what you think. I LOVE her.

Have fun at Blissdom. I just made your shrimp, spinach, and orzo dish. OMG! Delish!

Ugh, I’m the same way in social settings. Isn’t it awful?? But whenever it works out, it’s great.

Yuck. I hate socializing with people I don’t know and trying to make small talk. I say go for the flask.

Alcohol was always an effective social lubricant (notice the text of my messages after visiting Eden’s) for you in the past. Of course, it also probably resulted in too many slippery when wet moments. But I would still say 90% positive success outcome for you, then again I was usually bending elbows with you; maybe not the best judge? WTH, we lived to tell some hellagood stories, didn’t we!!!
