Dance by numbers
Number of bobby pins required to make a bun: 9
Number of little girls in Sabrina’s dance class: 6 (I know there are only 4 here…1 was in the hall crying and the other was late)
Number of times I heard the teacher ask Sabrina to leave the things in the teacher’s cubby alone: 4 (there were wands – the girl has never met a wand she didn’t love
Number of holes in the knees of Sabrina’s tights after 1 class: 3 (guess who is shopping for sturdier tights right this very moment)
Number of times I rolled my eyes at the mom who waited until arriving at the dance studio to try to take a photo of her daughter in her leotard because she couldn’t anticipate that her 3 year old plus 5 other 3 year olds might result in too much distraction for her child to stand still and look at her but she kept trying and got more shrill with each request that her child SMILE! AND! STAND! STILL! AND! LOOK! AT! MOMMY!: 2
Number of times I wished I had some way of entertaining Tessa that wouldn’t end with her crawling into the class: 13
Number of times I thought it takes a special person to try to herd cats teach 3 year olds to follow directions/dance (with a little southern “bless her heart” thrown in): 37
Number of times Sabrina declared that she loved ballet on the way home: 5
Sabrina had a great time at her class. She went into the room without crying – she did keep telling me to come with her. I followed behind until she got into the room and then stood where she could see me for a couple of minutes. Her teacher said afterward that she seemed to hang back at first but then after she watched for a little while she jumped right in. That is typical of how Sabrina handles new situations. She observes for a few minutes but once she is comfortable she throws herself into whatever it is.
She had a little trouble listening and following directions. I’m sure it is a combination of this being her first class situation and being 3. The teacher did a great job trying to keep everyone on track and kept everyone moving along. I am curious to see how it goes as the girls get to know one another and as they start to learn a little bit. Regardless, that was a room full of cute!
That is TOO funny! But, wow, she is SO…….. stinkin cute!!!
So what’s with the bun thing? Why do they have to wear a bun?
I think it’s a great introduction to following the rules of other adults when she gets to do something she likes. Dance class was both of my kids’ introduction to “formal education”, so to speak.
I bet that was so fun to watch!
Things like that (a bunch of cuteness doing anything) always makes me a little teary-eyed.
Okay, so who is the rebel in the white leotard?
FUN!!! I started dance class at age 3, too! My mom kept scolding me for picking my nose in front of the wall o’ mirrors. I kept at it for 15 years – the dance training, not the nose-picking. Really.
too freaking cute.
too precious, love Sabrina the ballerina!
Oh my….I am so proud of Sabrina…….and of you, Mom! Gulp…
Seriously adorable!!! Oh my goodness…more pics please!!!
I was surprised by the bun too…this class is serious!
OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH she is just toooooo cute!!!! Great job on her hair!! Sounds like things went really well. HA!! Good luck to that teacher to keep them all focused. And, even more luck keeping Tessa out of the class. Maybe she will eat more snacks soon. That will help distract her.
I just want to say a big THANKS for writing about dance lessons earlier. That prompted me to get on the phone and get Elise enrolled–just in time!–for the Joy of Dance class in our neighborhood.
Three years old is a magical thing to watch, and even cuter when it comes in a little pink leotard!
Adorable!!! Love it!!!! So glad she had a great time!!
Awww…. your tiny dancer is adorable 🙂 So glad she enjoyed her class 🙂
very cute
She is so adorable. Glad she had a fun time!
That is awesome! Emily started at age 3 too and is still going at it! I am glad we don’t have to do buns for each class…just for recitals. If you go to an actual dance clothing store…we have one in town called Dancers Point where we can buy outfits and tights and shoes (very expensively I might add…no Target pricing there!)…they actually have hair things that are pretty cheap that I think are called bun nets. They help hold the bun in place. I don’t think it is a thing you can buy at Target though…you need to find a speciality store for it. It works great and I think they are only 2 or 3 dollars.
I also want to thank you MIchelle, you posted a couple weeks back about getting her into a dance class, and I realized my 3 yr old would also benefit from this. Our first class was Saturday, (come see the photos – she did great!) and though they do want a black leotard and pink tights (by recital time in Dec) they havent said a thng about a hair bun! I am not sure I could ‘bun’ her hair as it is pretty short and curly. Guess its back to the Dance store for some bun net things….
