What is wrong with me?
I haven’t had a single Christmas cookie this year. Not one. This isn’t bragging about my self control – this is bemoaning my serious lack of sugar cookies!
I was sick for the cookie swap with my Mom’s Club – I figured no one wanted my plague ridden cookies so I stayed home. I’ve been sick so I haven’t baked…I’ve been painting ornaments when I have a few minutes instead. I seriously hope someone up north will hook me up with some cut outs or I’m going to have to make New Years cookies when we get home.
And speaking of needless sugar, does anyone still make that hard candy people used to make at the holidays? It was different colors and flavors and dusted with something (powdered sugar I guess). I always liked that stuff. I loved the black licorice and cinnamon the best but you never see it in anyone’s candy dish anymore. No idea why but I was thinking about it today.
You may now return to your day. Thank you for listening.
oh, i used to love “rock candy,” as my family called it! my mom would have to go to the drugstore to get the tiny bottles of flavoring, as they didn’t actually carry them in the grocery store. (why the drug store did, i have no idea.) i haven’t made them or seen them in years. i didn’t like the flavors so much as i simply liked how pretty they were. 🙂
I did a whole post last December about hard tack candy – my memories of my mom and the church ladies making it every winter. I loved the watermelon flavor.
We made hard tack every year growing up. I think it’s what you’re talking about. I’ll probably start doing it again when their past the choking hazard stage.
Don’t know about the candy, but I made homemade marshmallows tonight. They will be dipped in chocolate tomorrow. Just an impulsive thing I decided I had to have this week. LOL
If nobody makes you the candy, let me know. I have the recipe somewhere.
Oh, gosh I remember that candy – seems like the aunts and grandma always made it – hadn’t thought about it in years. Might have to hunt down an old recipe. I did make a batch of Buckeyes though – hadn’t had those in years and they tasted SO good 🙂 Another memory of my past Christmas’s with family in Ohio.
Hope you get your sugar cookie fix soon – I’m fixing to whip up a batch so my 4 year old can decorate them tonight 🙂 Nothing like iced sugar cookies with a half cup of red sparkly sugar dumped on top of each one! YUM!
I haven’t had any Christmas cookies either. No fair.
ummm, didn’t get to the baking part in our house either. So very sorry to hear you were so sick. Hope you are better as well as everyone else in your beautiful family.
