Nothing spooky here, move along
This year, I let the girls pick out their costumes. The result was pink and glittery and blond and purple and cheaply made. But they love it so I’m not complaining too much. Tessa picked out her butterfly costume because she is currently obsessed with butterflies that land all over a bush in our yard. Sabrina said for months that she wanted to be Rapunzel and never wavered. It had to have the wig. I had mixed feelings about my beautiful Guatemalan daughter wanting a long, blonde wig. But I decided to not a make a big deal out of it.
Just as well I didn’t over react. She ended up not wanting to wear it because it itched and the wind kept blowing it in her face so she removed it right after photos. (Photos by Crystal.) She did think it was hilarious that everyone at the party did a double take and said they didn’t recognize her.
Tessa was mad that we weren’t going to the playground (the party was at a picnic pavilion in the park) but I knew the costumes wouldn’t survive hard play. She protested loudly and often. But at least she looked cute while doing it.
Oh they are SOOOO cute!!!! Hannah is also Rapunzel and had to have a blonde wig – I thought it was cute and people do take a double look when they are used to the gorgeous black hair 🙂 Unfortunately that wig hair is atrocious and tangles up like crazy (no pun intended!). I ended up fixing the wig hair into a long braid – much more manageable and we added some flowers to the braid to look “authentic Rapunzel”…lol. MUCH easier to wear!

My daughter was Hannah Montana a couple of years ago and had the long blonde wig as well. I had to laugh each time I saw her in it. She looked so different! A couple of neighbors had to ask who she was!

We have the da#$ wig, too. It sheds all over the house and she looks like a mini Beyonce in it!
Of course she lost interest in that $12 investment about 2 hours after we got home with it. I braided it and hung it on the rack with the 8 princess dresses that we had.to.have.or.I.will.not.continue.to.breathe.Mama.
I’m for allowing free choice in costumes, too. Which is why my girly girl was a dinosaur one year. And will be Jasmine this year.
They both look awesome!!! Yeah, wigs are overrated. Our daughter loves to try them on, but they can’t stand to leave it on because of how itchy it is.
Your girls were adorable! Emily wants one of those Rapunzel wigs too, but like you I hestitate to buy it for her. I’m sure I’ll cave eventually! LOL
Tessa is an adorable butterfly and Sabrina a beautiful Rapunzel. I totally get your concern about Sabrina and the blonde hair. Serena has recently been telling me she wants yellow hair because it’s prettier. Ugh, worry worry worry me.
Serena was pretty set on Rapunzel for a couple months (I really was hoping to gently change her mind because of the wig for all the reasons you mention along with tangling, itching and most likely not wearing it at all) and then it just happened on it’s own. She saw a Jasmin costume and that was it. I dread the day she wants to change from these sweet costumes to those slutty ones they are making for tweens. That will be a problem. Right now Halloween is such a fun time for us all when they are young. Your girls are really so beautiful! Love to see updates on them!
