Orville Redenbacher’s Pop Up Bowls Giveaway

May24

Phew. Sorry about that disappearance. About 8 hours after I declared myself the last (wo)man standing in our house, the dreaded stomach bug hit me and slapped me down HARD. We won’t go into details. Let’s just say I was out of commission for 5 days. I haven’t been that sick any time that I remember. Moving on.

I don’t do reviews very often anymore. There are a variety of reasons for that – none of which are important to anyone except me. When you see me do a review, it is because it is either a product I already love or one I really want to try out. (Most of the products I talk about aren’t sponsored…I have a “Things I’m Loving Right Now” post about half done in my drafts. That one is all me.) MomCentral sent out the invitation to do a review of Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop! Pop Up Bowls. I raised my hand and said “Me! Me! Me!”.  I love popcorn. A lot. As in don’t try and eat out of my bowl. You might lose a finger.

We observe a 90 min – 2 hour nap/quiet time around here. Tessa sleeps. Sabrina reads or plays quietly upstairs. Mommy takes a shower, grabs some lunch, and watches something on the DVR gets some work done.  After quiet time, my girls demand a snack. Snack time is deeply ingrained around here and they will accept nothing less than something yummy, crunchy, salty, and fulfilling. They often ask for crackers or pretzels but their absolute, hands-down favorite is popcorn. Popcorn makes any afternoon feel special to them. If it is raining, some popcorn and a Disney DVD turns it into the Best! Afternoon! Ever! as far as they are concerned. I feel better about giving them popcorn than a lot of other snacky foods – it is high in fiber, filling, and lower in calories than most items they request.

My oldest daughter was a cow in her school play and didn’t want to take off the costume.

The Smart Pop! Pop Up Bowls allow you to rip off the side and use the bag as a stand alone bowl. According to Orville Redenbacher’s fact sheet, Smart Pop! has the a lot of benefits:

  • 6 cups of Smart Pop! has only 100 calories
  • 1 serving provides 2 servings of whole grains
  • A new study from ConAgra Foods found that snacking on 100-calories of low-fat healthy popcorn, like Orville Redenbacher’s SmartPop!, leads to less hunger and more satisfaction versus other snacks like almonds or pretzels
  • 100% whole grain, good source of fiber, low in fat, no trans fat
  • A ConAgra Foods study reveals that a daily snack of Orville Redenbacher’s 94 percent fat-free SmartPop! popcorn can help dieters maintain reduced calorie eating plans while still feeling full and satisfied
  • Popcorn is a whole grain. Research shows that consumers who eat popcorn come much closer to meeting the dietary guidelines recommendation for whole grain consumption of three servings a day

As I mentioned, my girls aren’t the only one who like popcorn. I have a minor obsession with it. Don’t go to the movies with me if you want to share because I don’t share my popcorn. I love being able to pop a big bowl of popcorn and eat all the way through it without feeling horribly guilty like I would if I hit the bottom of a pretzel or chip bag. My favorite is kettle corn. I have a thing with salty/sweet and that satisfies both for me.

Now for the giveaway. I’m giving away 10 boxes of Orville Redenbacher’s Smart Pop! Pop Up Bowls (10 commenters will receive 1 box or coupon for a free box). Just leave me a comment and tell me when you like to eat popcorn and if you share. I will draw winners on June 1st after 2pm. There is also a $1 off coupon on their facebook page.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Orville and received product samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

If I go to see a movie I HAVE to have popcorn. We also have popcorn at least 3 nights a week. And I don’t share….AT ALL! And I’m totally with you on the Kettle Corn thing. My fav!

We almost always have it for family movie night. Occasionally I have a bag when I have the munchies after the kids are in bed.

I dislike kettle corn but I am all about salt and not so much about sweet. Sadly popcorn is one of my favorite things (especially with salt and salt and a little butter!) but it’s not a snack we think of often. As a matter of fact we still have some from the boy scouts we need to eat…I think I am going to pop some right now! 🙂 And movie theater…that is the best! 🙂

  7. On May 24th, 2012 at 6:29 pm Rene Says:

I usually share my popcorn…. when I’m not pregnant. I share nothing while pregnant. I love kettle corn too, if it’s not kettle it has to be drenched in heart stopping buttery goodness.

I love popcorn at the movies, or will sometimes pop a bag at night while watching tv, or at work as as afternoon snack. I share…if I have to!

I really thought I was the ONLY one who loves kettle corn! No one else at my house will eat it so of course I buy it often 🙂 You’ll catch us eating popcorn with a movie at home…”Tangled” if I get to choose…”Chipmunks Chipwrecked” if Cara gets to choose.

We love popcorn in our house too! So much so that we each have our own popcorn container, because I like salt no butter and my daughter likes a ton of butter and no salt and my husband likes both. I usually pop my own in olive oil, but sometimes we do the microwave version. And we always have popcorn while we watch Survivor.

Is there really a reason to have popcorn? It is a staple of my salt craving crunchy munchies at night. Right before chocolate! LOL!

I love your pics Michelle! How can you not love popcorn? But the best place is at the movie theatre!

Your post reminds of my son: don’t get between him and his popcorn. His favorite is kettle corn and so is mine. But he will eat any popcorn and he will even hide any leftovoers. He wants it in his lunch, snack after swimming, you name it. I will go out of my way to get some freshly made kettle corn at a fair, farmer’s market, whatever. And with five little ones, one has to get creative.
We like popcorn and a movie at home — each child gets his/her own bucket of popcorn, no sharing — so we get Costco sized boxes and reuse the buckets we get at the zoo.

I share. When I share, I can rationalize that I didn’t eat the whole thing. Even if I only shared a kernel or 2. And speaking of popcorn, 2 years ago, I took my niece Maddy (then 2) to the circus. Not being a mom myself, I didn’t know you aren’t supposed to give 2 year-olds popcorn. (something or other about choking. Go figure) Anyway, I shared my popcorn with Maddy who was in popcorn heaven! When we got home and told mommy of all the fun & the special treat, Mommy was very upset with Aunt Marcia. See what I get for being nice? Oh, and by the way, my dog LOVES popcorn!!

I eat popcorn a couple times a week at work around 3pm and it always hits the spot! My fav is Orville Redenbachers. It’s the only one I like except for the boyscout popcorn with a little chocolate drizzle on it. Talk about sweet and salty, yum, but that only comes around once a year so I stick with Orville. We also eat it on movie night, lights out and under a blanket and yes me and Serena share. I think we’ll have to do movie night tomorrow!

I love Kettle Corn too!!! I like popcorn when we do family movie night occassionally.

  17. On May 25th, 2012 at 6:01 pm Pattie Says:

I love popcorn, too! At the movies, I have to have my own, cuz hubby and the kids like theirs too salty. But, my most common snack time is while I’m writing lesson plans.

I love popcorn. I’ll eat it any time any where. Yes I share but only because when I make it at home there is a lot to share.

We love popcorn here! We have movie night on Friday nights and the popcorn is mandatory. I usually split the bag into 2 small bowls so Gabriela can get her fair share and I don’t feel deprived.

We love popcorn too! We get it everytime we go to Target… which is alot, and Daddy makes popcorn almost every day!

Okay, your pics have made me hungry for popcorn!! I keep it stocked in the cupboard because Friday or Saturday nights are our family movie night, and Hannah MUST have popcorn and her weekly soda! As far as sharing, it’s hard not to when you have two Golden Retrievers staring at you expectantly when you munch…. they love it too!

Mauricio DEMANDS popcorn every.single.day.@4 o’clock on the dot! I have discovered the pop up bowls and will only buy those now! It is so easy and you don’t have to stick your hands in that yucky bag or dirty a bowl 🙂

I like popcorn too, especially movie theater popcorn. We get the big bucket and I hold it….and give the kids some in a napkin in their lap 🙂 BUT, it comes with a refill……..and a new pair of jeans the next size up.

Glad you are feeling better……sorry you were so sick!!

Love Popcorn! I use Orville’s in the jar and pop it in a pan above the stove rather than the microwae version. Like bothe Kettle corn and regualr.

We each get a bowl…with different amounts of salt and butter sub spray.

I do share at the movie through
