Day 5

December15

Several of you have emailed to tell me about your bed rest experiences. A couple of you had some long term bed rest – I don’t know how you did it! I’m hoping to be released from bed rest at my next doctor appointment (Tuesday). She ordered it because I was spotting. Progesterone seems to have resolved that problem pretty quickly so I’m hoping she will tell me to go about my life next time I see her.

The cold? Sucks. I can’t believe how much I miss cold medicine. The doctor won’t let me take anything. She suggested saline drops in my nose. Yeah…can’t get it through the wall of snot and even if I could it isn’t going to clear the rest of my head or my chest. I tried Vick’s last night – that didn’t particularly help either. So I am just suffering through it. I might be less cranky about it if I could sleep. But I can’t stop coughing long enough to really fall asleep.  Let’s review: bored + restless + sick + exhausted = one pissed off pregnant lady. Eh, it sounds worse than it is. I’m actually okay other than not feeling well.

Steve has the unfortunate job of listening to me moan and complain between coughing and blowing my nose.  He did get some free entertainment last night.  I can’t even remember what set me off but I started to cry over something silly on TV.  Then I started to laugh at myself for crying.  I sat there for 5 minutes alternating between laughing and crying while he looked on in awe then collapsed in laughter.  It really was quite the spectacle.  But the rest of the time he just looks at me helplessly because I’m a pathetic sight.

I had visitors today!  Cynthia and her mom brought me some home made soup.  It was great to see someone from the outside world.  And it forced me to put on something other than sweatpants for the first time in 3 days.

My bright spot? It looks like Elle shipped out the truffles this week. Woohoo!!!

Yeah, though the idea of spending 5 days in bed sounds like a good idea, I think I’d be nuts in about 35 minutes.
    Hang in there.

Welcome to my world of no cough medicine. (I have high blood pressure, so I can’t take anything with a decongestant in it) It’s rough. I haven’t tried the saline drops. Can you take Musinex? (I think that’s how you spell it) I know that it’s ok for me to take.

I really hope you get released from bed rest on Tuesday!!

I actually had come over to your site to tell you I’m thinking about you today. I know today must bring back some sadness from last year! You’re in my thoughts! I don’t know what you believe, but maybe your Dad played a part in this little miracle of yours! ;o) ((HUGS))

Anyway, I am really, really happy for you! Here’s to a healthy happy nine months!

I have been on bed rest twice, for more than 7 weeks both times…they allowed me 10 minutes for a shower and potty breaks and that was it. Every Day. Yuck.

Mine wasn’t from spotting and since the progesterone is working its magic you should hopefully get some good news next week.

Bed rest sucks!!! I plan on never having to be on it again.

I am sure the progesterone will work it’s wonders in keeping everything healthy and you’ll be released next week! I can’t wait to hear all is well.

I did bed rest for 2 days twice after IVF transfers and it wasn’t much fun. If I were sick on top of it, I’m sure I’d lose my mind.

I’m cracking up over the crying/laughing episode. Steve must be wondering what he is in for for the next 8 or so months.

This is for Steve: You think that this is bad you just wait until that baby is born. With Cassie I cried because I loved her, I cried because I was tired, I cried at the dog food commercials. I cried because I was crying. Should I go on?? Enjoy this, it’s the easy part!!!

Michelle, Hope you are released Tuesday. I would be a crazy lady!!

Ugh, being sick does suck when you can’t take cold meds! I live by Day.quill when I have a cold. But remember…you struggled to get pregnant for so long and viola it has happened when you didn’t think it would. 🙂

I was on and off bedrest for the first 2 months and then the last 4 months of my pregnancy with Madison. The worst part of it was September to November when I was on full bedrest and my living room was in my BASEMENT. So…I had 2 months without sunlight. It was bad, I knew the entire TV guide by heart. But…I made it to 39 weeks and had a perfect baby girl. It seems like the longest time while you are doing it…but it IS doable. Oh, and I had a cold when I was in labor with her. I would cough and hack in between contractions. Talk about a pathetic and scary sight!!!!

Love to you, Michelle. You can do this! Hope the cold is gone very soon and doc lets you get off your arse soon.

I am glad to hear you are doing okay Michelle! Sorry about the cold. I have one right now too compliments of Gabbie. Anyway, I hope you get good news next week. Take care and try not to go to crazy!

Ask about Claritin… my doc gave me the okay when I was prego… They may want you to a safe zone… but I would ask… even kids meds should help SOME.

I am sorry! Thinking of you.

Bahahaha, I laughed through your crying/laughing episode. Ah,the joys of being pregannt, lovely hormones. I had quite a few of those episodes myself. And I love the hubby’s face, totally helpless.

I’ve never had to experience bedrest – I’m sorry!! I truly don’t understand and won’t pretend to!! I do know, however, that putting vicks on your feet and then some socks before laying down for the night – does take away your cough! Try it!!

  15. On December 16th, 2007 at 8:12 pm Leigh Says:

    Michelle,
No suggestions/adviceon bedrest, but I am praying. i do have advice with the VICK’s- put some on a cotton swab and put some on the inside of your nose. yes, i know you are thinking I am crazy, I thought the same thing when my dad suggested it for me and Little Bug when we experienced our first cold. but, it works wonders. you cna breath and you get the benefits of VICKs. Now everytime Little Bug or I start with a runny, stuffy nose, I pull out the swabs and the VICKs. A little goes a long way in this application.

    Love to you,
    Deb AKA Momma Bug

How about some home remedies? I’ve been giving my daughter a teaspoon of honey every night before bed for about a week, and it seems to be working for her cough. And I just got some crazy email about putting Vicks on the bottom of your FOOT to help a cough! My mom has been swearing by this for years, but I blew her off, maybe I was wrong! Also…love the crying/laughing thing! Note to Steve: Do not ever point out that this is probably hormones! It will just get you on the wrong side of the crying/laughing jag!! One more since I don’t post much…I HATE it when people MY age start talking about how old they are! I’m 38….I’m so not close to old! Talk to me about it when I’m 78!!
