Sound the alarms

May27

Nine weeks people. That is single digits! 9 weeks! I am 30 weeks pregnant and they want to induce me at 39 weeks so that means I only have 9 weeks of being a mom to 1 child left. That means I only have 9 weeks to get ready for Tessa’s arrival. (Of course that means I still have 9 long weeks of feeling like a beached whale.)

Ask me what I’ve done to prepare. Go ahead, ask. N-O-T-H-I-N-G! I purchased a swing at a consignment sale a month or two ago. Other than that, this child has nothing. No car seat. No bassinet. No bouncy seat. No onesies. No crib. No nothing. My BFF is coming to visit this weekend and bringing me some goodies left over from her little one so that might fill some of the gaps in my lack of preparedness.  But I read blogs and visit message boards – other ladies (some who aren’t as far along as I am) have nursery themes and curtains and bedding that coordinate.  Admittedly, even when I can say things are prepared Tessa won’t have those things because I’m not a nursery theme kind of gal but still!  Gah!

Okay, you may all return to your regularly scheduled day now.  This was a test of the freaked out pregnant woman network.  In the even of a real meltdown, please send chocolate and ice cream and speak in soothing tones.

9 weeks can be an eternity…plenty of time for the shopping. If you have to make a short list, I think the car seat should be up there near the top…don’t think they will let you take her home without it..naked and diaperless yes, but not without a car seat. Have fun!

You are so funny! Seriously, I know that I was at least 34 weeks before I bought or ordered anything, and everything was ready by 39 weeks 🙂 You can do it, and it will be fun!

    So –
this is what happens when you stay in denial that the baby kicking you in the bladder REALLY IS coming out;)

The funny thing is – most of us OVER prepare for the tiny little peopele that arive:)
All you really need is comfy clothes for you and that you are OK with wearing days at a time. diapers and wipes (LOTS of those!), soft bankets, burp clothes, a few outifts, milk of some form, a safe place for the baby to sleep and a car seat. That will do it for a month or two. They mostly eat and poop.

As laid back as your clan is – this baby is gonna sleep through the night at two weeks – just wait and see.

Can I have your new address??
email it too me please:) I have something for you darlin:)

I know how you feel. I am just a super planner freak so everything is done but I have a lot of last minute things to do that I can’t because I have to sit on my butt all day. I have two words for you Craig’s List.

I had an infant car seat for the M (pink and white Graco) and it’s still in my basement if you want it! I think I might even have 2 bases for the car. 🙂

Deep Breaths!!!! My first was born five weeks early on the first day of my spring break week (6th grade teacher) which was the week I had planned to do everything!!! I had a crib and some clothes from the one shower that I made it to (others were planned after I ended up having my son) and I realized I really had all I needed. I’ve never done a nursery with a theme and so that was never something that worried me. Believe me you have everything you need with the stuff you have for Sabrina (except for maybe some nursing supplies and/or bottle supplies). Everything else is just stuff you should enjoy purchasing without freaking out because you will be just fine 🙂 You are a seasoned mom this time around and nothing will be harder than learning to be a mom in a foreign country away from your husband 🙂

Wow! 9 weeks!! It has flown for me too – LOL! I was going to suggest the same as Muriel… Craigs List or ebay! And, Consignment Shops are the BEST! When I think of all the $$ I spent on brand new stuff, it is crazy!

This is the fun part!! Shop till you drop!! Take that cute Sabrina with you and maybe her eyelashes batting at the sales people will score you some discounts too (always ask!!)!

Relaaaaaaaax! That’s plenty of time. (So sayeth the woman that gave her MIL a heart attack by not ordering a crib until she was about 8 months pregnant. It arrived two days before my due date. PLENTY OF TIME!)

The internet is your friend grasshoppa. Unless you like shopping.

You don’t strictly need a basinet. She can sleep in her crib from day one, or in your bed.

You’ll need at least 12 onesies, 24 pair of socks, and some misc blankets burp cloths, etc.

If you are nursing, definately get the Lanolin cream. I pshawed it, and a hoo boy did I need it.

All the rest you should have leftover from Sabrina.

(BTW, can I have your new address too? I’d like to make a “Tessa Bee” to match Sabrina’s)

    nesting kicking in? heh.

Seriously, don’t sweat it. Newborn babies need far less “stuff” that you would be led to believe. Something to eat, somewhere to sleep (we used a cosleeper and eventually just put him in bed with us when he got a little bigger), diapers and a carseat about covers it. And you already know about the slings. Most babies need to be close to mom when they are tiny so keeping Tessa in a carrier should keep her happy and entertained and keep your arms free to do other things for most of the day…. like chase down your toddler.

If you are nursing there are few things you’ll want, breast pads, a nursing bra, a good nursing book to refer to mainly and the hospital lactation consultant’s number just in case.

Can’t wait to see your little one!

Best wishes with your remaining 9 weeks. I’m sure everything will come together. Would cave women have been worrying about not having a cot, baby clothes or anything else? Nah, I’m sure they didn’t even think of making provisions for baby cave child until it arrived!

Relax + chill a while longer!

  17. On May 27th, 2008 at 7:45 pm Bobbi Says:

Um, Michelle you need to get ready. This kid could come sooner than you think!!!!!! But, you know, your arms are a great place for her to sleep. She may need some clothes, but that is your choice. I do recommend diapers. Can get a bit messy. Sabrina’s would do, but they may swallow her up.

Enjoy these last few weeks with Sabrina. I remember those day with Cassie, and then with Cassie and Krista.

Congratulations!! Just think when you thought that you wouldn’t get this far. This has been remarkable to see. I am so very happy for you all.

    NOW, get shopping!!!!!!!

Come on girl, get that baby stuff in order before you get so big that you won’t feel like doing anything but resting. I thought that was the most exciting part of a baby coming- going and buying and picking out everything!
