Haagen-Dazs (and a give away)

April17

I’ve mentioned hundreds of times once or twice my love of ice cream.  I love ice cream in all forms: soft serve, hand dipped, in a sundae, on a stick, in a cone, as a milkshake.  So when a product review opportunity from Mom Central arrived in my inbox for Häagen-Dazs, I wiped the drool off my chin and hit respond pretty darn quick.

Häagen-Dazs has a new line.  And they sent me 4 (four! all for me!) pints to try.

The new Häagen-Dazs line is Five.  They call it ice cream unplugged.  It boasts only 5 all natural ingredients in each flavor: milk, cream, sugar, eggs, and the flavor ingredient so the natural flavors shine through.  They sent me mint, brown sugar, ginger, and passion fruit.

Mint: very creamy, the perfect amount of mint (didn’t feel like i was eating toothpaste which some overpowering mint flavors can).  Quite yummy and refreshing.

Brown sugar: again quite creamy.  It tasted like cookie dough before you put the chocolate chips in – big YUM.  The sweet factor was pretty high on this one as you can imagine so it meant I didn’t have to eat much to be very satisfied.

Ginger: The ice cream itself was creamy and tasted like fresh ginger.  I’m not a big fan of ginger so it wasn’t my cup of tea.

Passion fruit: creamy and so fruity!  The fruit flavor was so fresh it was surprising.  Very refreshing – a great ending to a spicy meal.

It also comes in coffee, chocolate, and vanilla bean.

As a thank you for reviewing the product (like the ice cream wasn’t thanks enough), they sent me a few certificates for a free pint of any Häagen-Dazs ice cream or a package of Häagen-Dazs bars.   And because I love you all, I’m going to share.  I must love you all because I don’t share ice cream.  Ask my husband.  Or my children.

For the next few weeks, I’m going to do a give away each Friday. You can win a certificate good for a free pint of any Häagen-Dazs ice cream or a package of Häagen-Dazs bars. You can try one of the new Haagen-Dazs Five flavors or an old favorite.  Your choice.

To enter this week’s give away, visit the Haagen-Dazs site and tell me what you think of the new Häagen-Dazs Five line of ice cream.  Does it appeal to you?  I will draw a random winner at 1pm CT on Monday April 20th.  Leave a valid email address so I can contact you if you are the winner.

dsc09439And thanks Haagen-Dazs for packaging it in dry ice.  I had fun melting it down.

Hi! I saw your post about the Haagen Dazs ice cream. I’m working on a project where I have to research ice cream and what’s new…and my mouth is watering at the Five line! Brown Sugar is my ultimate favorite flavor when it comes to candies and goodies. I’ve been wanting to try the new ice cream but as a poor college student on a budget…the expensive pint can’t be easily justified. I love the idea of just 5 ingredients. It seems more pure and homemade! I’d love to win the coupon to try a pint and share with my ice cream loving roommates also!

I’ve read about these on other sites and they sound DELISH. I’m kind of a ginger fan, so I’m looking forward to trying that one and the mint. Yum!

I’m 5-1/2 months pregnant, ice cream is my best friend at this point, lol. The new Five line from Haagen-Dazs definitely appeals to me! I like knowing that what I’m eating isn’t chock full of preservatives & other random crap. The brown sugar flavor sounds devine!

Okay, seriously, I thought I was the only one that liked the cookie dough better before the chocolate chips were put in. My sister actually will make me cookies without any chips! Yum!

I love the fact that I can pronounce all the ingredients. Can’t wait to try the brown sugar! Don’t think any other brand offers that flavor. p.s. I don’t share my ice cream either 🙂

What is there not to love about Haagen Dazs? I picked up two of the “bite” size cups: one for me and one for my co-worker. Even though we found out our work freezer wasn’t worker — we had it as milkshake — it was still d e l i c i o u s! I like their clean design on the new line. Most of the flavors sound appealing to me.

You had me at brown sugar. I loooooooooove cookie dough before the eggs and chocolate chips. YUM!!

Dry ice???? Can we win some of that too. It is so fun!!

Milk Chocolate? Brown Sugar? Mint?? Passion Fruit??? So many choices, and they all sound wonderful! I love that all the ingredients are natural as well. (this will have to be hidden at the back of the freezer!)

So glad to get your reviews of this. We’ve started trying to get Ally to eat ice cream (since the girl won’t drink milk and we need to do something to get her to gain weight) and I saw the 5 stuff in the store and wondered about it. TI’ve especially wondered about the brown sugar. I guess I might have to try that and spend extra time at the gym! And I agree with several other PP about cookie dough before the chips – Yummy.
Glad you had fun with the tasting.

Well, the mint is always my favorite (think York Peppermint Patty!) but I’d like to try the fruit one. It sounds “healthier” and goes with the 5 ingredients.

Thanks for the review, especially of the brown sugar flavor. I probably wouldn’t have tried that on my own, but it sounds heavenly!!! (and hey, I could add my own chips and call it Six!)

In our effort to put less preservatives in our bodies, I saw this in the grocery store yesterday. I lingered, but then passed by because of the last 7 baby-weight pounds that won’t GO AWAY. However, since you’re doing a giveaway, I think me and Haagen-Dazs Five are meant to be in each others lives. Would love to try the Mint. OR maybe Coffee, because mmmm. Coffee.

My daughter has dairy allergies, so she’s only allowed strictly soy products. Does it make me a horrible mother to be just a teeny bit happy that if I won, I would get to eat it ALL BY MYSELF???? That milk chocolate looks soooo good…

  32. On April 20th, 2009 at 10:15 am april Says:

I love ice cream! And so does my oldest daughter… could it be b/c I consumed mass quantities of ice cream while preggo? The 5 line sounds very good… almost like home made ice cream. Not sure about the ginger flavor… but I’m betting the others are very good. I may have to get some for my bday this weekend!

I love the concept of just 5 ingredients and less fat always helps. I think I would probbaly love mint the best as I’m a big mint person, but the other flavors sound yummy too. I’ll have to start looking for them in the store
