Baby clothes

June5

dsc09522What is it about baby clothes that turns otherwise logical, rational adults into high pitched cooing puddles?  After 2+ years as a mom, I am pretty good at avoiding really stupid clothing purchases for my children.**  But sometimes one sneaks by me.  At the consignment sale this spring, I remember picking up a sweater set and saying to Steve “Oh look how sweet! And it’s Talbot’s so it is nice quality…and it is only $5!”  I promptly put it in my must have pile of purchases.  What was my internal dialog – “Throw on some ballet flats and it will be perfect if she needs to run into the office for a quick meeting on casual Friday!”? Seriously, a sweater with butterfly appliques and capris.  For an infant.  I only put her in it to punish myself for the stupid purchase.

**If I am buying a gift for your child and am therefore not responsible for dressing said child or laundering said garment, I make no such promises.

Look at the big girl standing up!! I love that outfit, and she totally needs Ballet flats to go with it.

Let’s face it, when we have kids we don’t really get to buy clothes for ourselves, so we live through our children.

The day I sent my final dossier in I went on a baby-clothes buying spree like has never been seen – I swear I was in some kind of pre-referral trance where one outfit was cuter than the next and all I could picture was my daughter-to-be in each outfit. What kills me is all the hats that matched each precious frilly outfit – and I had a kid who hated hats…lol. But I figure the day will come that she will refuse to have nothing but jeans and t-shirts in her closet, so I’m entitled to this time of dressing her as I please… I so would have picked up that darling butterfly/capri ensemble and would have been scouting Target for ballet flats…heh….

Oh goodness she is growing up so fast and so pretty. LOVE the outfit! Would have been in my “must have” pile too!

LOL! I totally get what you’re saying. My daughter is lucky to have two slightly older girl cousins who’s moms pass down all their clothes to us. However, one of the mom’s (one of my sisters) is prone to buying little cardigans and lots of plaid (not even at all as cute as the outfit Sabrina is wearing…some of the stuff looks more like something a 50-somthing would wear to a church banquet). Even my husband has said “WTF is she wearing?” to one such outfit… and he doesn’t usually notice whether the kids are dressed or not.

Pre kids I used to buy those cute little overall outfits for people because they were soooo adorable on the hanger. Until Jase was a few months old and I put a big overall outfit on him. How annoying. All it did was get in his face the entire time. Haven’t bought one as a gift since. We all learn our lessons the hard way!
