Boycott Pants

June9

Sabrina has been all girl from day 1.  But now she wants the world to know it.  For the past 2 weeks, she has demanded to wear a dress every day.  The only problem I have with that is: she only has a few dresses.  I bought a few dresses and a bunch of shorts and tops for the summer.  This is the first time I’ve had to fight with her over wardrobe options.  She also wants Tessa to wear dresses – thankfully Tessa doesn’t care yet.

This is the current favorite dress.  Every time I do laundry, she immediately requests this dress.  The reason she loves dresses?  Because she can dance and twirl in them.  This from the girl who didn’t like dance class.  She will turn on her radio* (thanks Grandma Freida…it is now her favorite item…and mommy likes it too now that Steve loaded songs on it that don’t drive me crazy) and twirls for longer than anyone with an inner ear should be able.

Unfortunately, the twirling makes it difficult to capture a picture in our dark cave of a living room between the bad lighting and the fact that my camera always snaps the photo at the exact moment she turns her head.

And neither child will actually look at me when I have the camera out.  Tessa will purposefully turn her head and refuse to look at me when she hears me turn it on.

But sometimes it still turns into a cute photo.

*This is the radio (Discovery Kids MP3 Player) that Grandma Freida got Sabrina for Christmas 2 years ago.  It is an MP3 player that you can load songs onto.  It comes pre-loaded with 20 really annoying songs but you can remove those.  We put music on it that Sabrina likes dancing to but that doesn’t drive us crazy.  (Abba, Stevie Wonder, Bon Jovi, Barenaked Ladies, Go-Gos, Def Leopard, AC/DC, etc.)  Click here for the listing on Amazon.

Dear FCC: No one asked me to plug the radio and the link is not an affiliate link…assuming I am using the term affiliate link correctly (meaning I get nothing if someone clicks on the link).  Just sharing a good product with my friends.

Beautiful dresses on beautiful girls! I’m betting that Sabrina didn’t like dance because someone was telling her what to do. She sounds like Serena in that they’re very independent and want to do things their way. Am I right? I know lately Serena loves, loves to give directions to people. Uhg. Serena also turns away from the camera and it’s very difficult to get a good picture. *sigh*

Cute! Tessa is getting so big!
    How old is Sabrina?
We’ve been fighting over wardrobe for at least 6 long months and my daughter is 4 1/2. I don’t see any end in sight and the only way to avoid a fight is to let her wear what she wants, no matter what it is. We get strange looks often and her day care provider is beside herself with worry when we show up in a tank top, shorts and rubber boots in December!
She chose her clothes last night, but this morning I found her in the family room digging thru the clean laundry pile that has yet to be folded. When I asked what she was doing? she said “nothing mommy, but please go because I need my privacy!”. She was looking for her favorite tank top…..and it’s cold and rainy here today.

I don’t have fights (thank goodness) but EJ definitely prefers dresses if she can. So for this summer I went to the outlet malls and got as many different tank dresses (in t-shirt material) that I could find at Old Navy & Carters. Figure that way they aren’t “nice” so I really don’t have to worry about the playground time or sweat or chocolate ice cream ruining them!

I remember this stage!! Cassie was exactly her age. She wore dresses only. We wore them everywhere, and yes, they had to twirl! I love that she wants Tessa to join in too! Sounds as if they are starting to bond as sisters. Look out when they band together.

The radio sounds pretty cool. I am going to have to check it out for Reese.

Oh, and Reese has started to have wardrobe desires as well. He wants to wear on his Toy story t-shirt. This morning I convinced him to wear another outfit by allowing him to lay his clothes out for tomorrow before we even got dressed for the day!! Three’s, aren’t they fun??!?!

Oh yes, very familiar. Miss G wants twirly dresses every day too. But, fortunately, she can still be convinced when it’s not appropriate to wear a dress. I’m guessing the days of easily changing her mind are going to come to a screeching halt at any time.

ALice will only wear shorts or leggings and tank tops. All our relatives give her dresses despite never seeing her wear and dress (or because!). Maybe we should do a clothing swap!!!
