Summer ain’t playin’

June15

Summer isn’t even here, according the calendar, yet I would be hard pressed to name the last day where it didn’t reach 90 degrees.  It is currently 93* in my back yard (minus sun factor).  I spent 30 minutes mowing – couldn’t handle more than that.  It is going to have to happen in chunks because it is only supposed to get hotter and there is no cool time of day to get it done w/o the girls underfoot unless I get up at 5:30am and that isn’t going to happen.  (Truth: I didn’t want Steve to have to do it all on Father’s Day when it is supposed to be 100.)

Our prior 3 summers here, it hasn’t gotten this hot in a sustained way until July.  This  year it almost went straight from “It’s too cold to play outside” (coldest winter in memory  here in TN) to “It’s too wet to play outside” (rained for weeks then flooded) to “It’s too hot to play outside.”  Poor girls are not happy with the 2 or 3 weeks of playground/bike riding fun they got.

I bought them a blow up pool last week and they now spend every waking moment asking to swim.  Did I mention it is hot out?  Poor Tessa is so white you can almost see through her so even with sun screen I can’t let them stay out for too long.  (That and the fact that momma has to sit out there and watch.  In the hot sun.  Did I mention it was hot?)  Be prepared to see a lot of photo with the orange pool for the next 3 months.  Did I mention it is hot?  I should have considered photo ops when choosing the color of the pool.  Heh. Sadly I’m only sort of kidding. Any photo not sporting the orange pool will be indoors where there is plenty of a/c blowing.  My Scots-Irish self isn’t made for these temps.

And my favorite photo of the weekend:

As a mom to a translucent baby myself, I feel your pain! And mine HATES having a hat on too! UGH!

I think the orange coordinates nicely with the Nemo swimsuit. When the orange pool only lasts a month (or maybe that only happens at our house?), you’ll have to coordinate with Tessa’s suit instead.

You need to have Steve go buy a open sided “tent”/canopy, set it up next to the pool, run an extension cord and get yourself a big ass fan. That’ll be mommy’s spot. Occassionally have Sabrina mist you with a spray bottle. Tessa can serve the lemonade.

Yes, my poor translucent baby has gotten burnt through clothes in the past, so now he gets sunscreen everywhere before I dress him.

Now you need a second blow up pool to sit in yourself. You’d be amazed how good it feels. I like the “tent” idea above too. You could put it over the pool to help some with the sun on Tessa too.

That last picture is just priceless – it reminds me of her baby pictures with that super huge Sabrina smile. Its so good to see it again.

I have to agree with the other posters – you need to get your self a tent or at least a sun umbrella so you can sit in the shade. We have a lot of success with the rash-guard swimsuits in our family, or the longsleeve rashguard shirt over a regular swimsuit – they are not too expensive at Lands End right now, frankly cheaper than sunscreen all summer IMHO. The other requirement is a hat with a chin strap. Can’t be outside with out the hat on – its the rule.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Very cute pictures of the girls. I can’t get over how Sabrina never stops smiling. They look like they are having so much fun.
At least you’ve seen sun. I’m pretty sure they cancelled summer in Oregon this year. It’s 50 and raining today. Again.

Could Sabrina’s smile get any bigger in that last pic?? I would say the pool that almost caused you brain damage from lack of oxygen is a hit! And, well, what’s a little more damage???

Sorry it’s so hot. We are supposed to bet to 90 tomorrow. Where we are that is almost unheard of in August, let alone June! I cannot.wait. I love the heat!!! Bring it on:>)
