Sanity from Nick Jr

October18

I have to call foul right now.  Once, many moons ago, I took you all to task for not telling me what a holy mess biter/teething biscuits made.  Now I want to know why you were all holding out on me about the difference between Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.  We just had our TV service installed at the new house.  I needed the kids out from under my feet for 30 minutes so I turned it on and started searching through 600 channels for PBS.  In the late afternoon, PBS is the only channel I normally let the girls watch if we turn the TV on at all.  Disney is full of tween dramedies at that time.  Nick is all SpongeBob all the time.  PBS has some good programing (the Electric Company got a serious revamp – it was no where near that cool when I was a kid).  But somewhere between channel 543 and channel 8 (where PBS apparently resides), I stumbled upon Nick Jr.  It was showing things that used to appear in the morning on Nick but have since vanished.  No one told me that that Wonder Pets and Backyardigans and everyone else except Dora was hiding over on this little channel of toddler nirvana.  It was only very recently that I came to understand that they were 2 distinct and different channels but I didn’t realize that at least for the purposes of keeping my children occupied that Nick Jr was so vastly superior.  Help a momma out next time!

I even got to go to the bathroom by myself for the first time in a year.

****************

I have photos but my camera and computer aren’t in the same house at the moment.  Tomorrow, they will both live happily together.  The movers arrive at 8:30 in the morning.  We have a good bit of our stuff already at the new house – the kitchen is fully functional and we should be in decent shape once the furniture gets there.  I will be so freaking glad when I can call this move finished.  And they will have to pry my lifeless, cold, dead body from that house far in the future because I never want to move again.

So I take it then, that your girls haven’t watched Max & Ruby? Maddy is OBSESSED! Nick Jr. is great…no commercials! Glad you finally discovered it! It’s funny–I used to work at Nick @ Nite (before Maddy) then when I worked at PBS Maddy wasn’t really into Sesame Street. Bad timing, I guess!
Congrats on the move! Moving itself sucks, but after you’re all settled in, you’ll forget about the stress & aggravation, and by then your nails will have grown back!!

I take it you now have digital cable of some sort? Go to Video on Demand, find the Free Rentals, and then the Kids category. I have Cablevision and Doug has Time Warner, it’s the same for both of those systems. Trust me, you’ll thank me. The one thing that got me was that most of the Nick Jr shows are on the Nick Jr channel, but Dora, Diego, and Fresh Beat (our latest favorites) are on the Nick channel under Preschool.

Oh we LOVE Nick Jr. It’s sad but I like some of the programs as much as Tabi. I love Olivia, Max & Ruby–although it is disturbing that Ruby is always taking care of Max, where is the Mom? Nick Jr. affords me the luxury of taking a shower in the mornings without wondering if she’s tearing the house apart!

WHERE have you been?!?!?! That is my babysitter!!!! Love it!! Dora makes an appearance here and there too. And, sometimes you can even go pee AND wash your hands uninterupted!!!

I despise spongebob!! Waste of oxygen and I swear it makes my kids stupider!! (That’s my word!!) But, Reese sees the tween dramas often that time of day since he has sisters who are TWEENS!!!! He LOVES him some Hannah Montana and ICarly!!:>)

Good luck with the move. Looks like we may not be joining that group any time soon.

LOL. I can’t believe you didn’t know about Nick Jr. Just making sure… you do know about DVDs right? They’re these cool discs that can be bought OR rented and play whatever you want, whenever you want. 😉

Nick, Jr used to be called Noggin. Nick, Jr and PBS are the only channels we watch at our house if C is awake and moving around. Seriously. If she happens to catch a glimpse of a commercial on TV, she says, “I don’t like that show!” I cannot stand SpongeBob. I agree with Bobbi…it makes kids stupid – and violent! My only problem with Nick Jr is that I have memorized EVERY episode of Olivia. Every episode of Wonder Pets and absolutely every episode of Max and Ruby. I definitely like Toot and Puddle more than my 3 yr old. She doesn’t even care when I say, “Look! Mommy has been there, too!” 🙂
