Teaching my children to question authority, except mine.

Fear interrupted

October17

For Christmas almost 2 years ago, Sabrina received a “big girl” bike from her aunt and uncle. She wasn’t big enough for it yet but she picked it out with excitement – fortunately she was just coming out of the Dora phase and moving into the princess phase so she still likes the bike because it isn’t covered in Dora.  She sat on it a few times but flat out refused to try to ride it. It scared the bejeezus out of her. This summer, she finally declared if we bought her a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads, she might ride it. I told her I wasn’t spending the cash on those items unless she was really going to ride the bike.  Impasse until yesterday.  Having daddy home bolstered her confidence and she decided she wanted to try it out in our cul de sac.  She did pretty well.  Today, she was even braver and rode around the cul de sac unassisted.  Guess I better pony up for a helmet and pads now.

Not more than 30 minutes after we put her bike away and went inside, a little boy came to our front door.  He asked “Can Sabrina please come out to play?” With my heart in my throat, I had to tell him no because we were about to sit down for dinner.  Two such big things in one day. A boy. Asking for my daughter to come out and play. No one has ever done that before. (Next will be a boy picking her up for a date. Hyperventilating here.)  And then the bike. (Next thing we know it will be a car. Is it hot in here?) I just want to put a freeze on this growing up thing for a little while.

And this one is finally having the language explosion we expected a year ago. She is trying a dozen new words a day and putting together small sentences. She is pretty adept at riding the big wheel and would probably hop on the big girl bike tomorrow if we let her.  She is fearless. We had potty training boot camp for 2 1/2 days and we lost. Badly. I decided it was best to retreat and regroup. We’ll try again in a few weeks or months when she is interested. Right now she has no interest or desire.

Oh my goodness. Pilar would give you a flat out heart attack if you saw her on her two-wheel bike with no training wheels flying down the hills. I’ve been watching it for well over a year now and it still takes my breath away. Thank G*d she hasn’t started dating like Sabrina. I couldn’t handle it all. 😉

The girls are ADORABLE as always.

Oh gosh, a BOY! asking her to come out to play! Your face must’ve been worth a million 🙂
Glad Miss T is talking up a storm, our youngest is 2 and refusing to speak – she understands everything, but won’t talk. Sigh. We do speech therapy 2x a week, but so far – nada. Any tips that worked for you guys? Thanks!

YUP! Soon she will be trotting off with her boyfriend and you and Steve will be sprouting gray hairs by the minute, and breathing into paper bags……warmer yet!?

Go Sabrina on the bike!! She looks SOOOO grown up!! Reese really isn’t into his bike at.all. He thinks of it as a punishment!! But, you better get your running shoes on cuz when she gets started, she is going to be hard to keep up with!!!

Yep, this kind of stuff keeps me up at night! Although my normally fearless girl, gets a bit nervous on her bike. But boys…nothing is going to stop her there!

My girl (almost 5) will not even sit on a big girl bike with training wheels at the store! She doesn’t like that sideways rocking motion at.all. She’s also kind of afraid of the second hand motorized Barbie Jeep that she got for Christmas 2 years ago. It jerks when it starts.

So she has a big pink Radio Flyer tricycle…and a scooter.

And thank you for making me feel better about bringing a young child into our Grandma and Grandpa neighborhood. Playdates have to be arranged – there are no other young children (a BOY???) to ring the doorbell and ask if my girl can come out to play!

Your girls are both so freaking cute.

My Jamie has the same Dora trike (time to sell it or pass it on as she is on her two wheeler with training wheels too)

If you figure out the potty training, please post! My DD is one day older than Tessa and we are having the same problem. She is willing, but doesn’t seem to grasp what to do. She will sit on the potty for ever and not pee, and as soon as I put her in a pull up she fills it up. I just don’t know how to get her to understand that pee goes in the potty!!
