Last day at the beach

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I’ve been quiet because our borrowed internet connection has been sketchy.  Today was sadly the last day of our beach vacation.

Sabrina chilling at the beach:

Sunset tonight:

Saturday and likely Sunday will be travel days.  See you all on Monday!

Caddyshack revisited

The accused:

The crime:  That wasn’t a Baby Ruth floating in the kiddie pool.

You couldn’t possibly think it was me?

Look how cute I am…would I do something like that?

How embarrassing to be accused of such a thing.

Okay, you wore me down coppers.  I admit it – it was me.

And I would do it again if I had to.  What are you going to do about it?

Don’t go breaking my heart

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Sabrina is breaking my heart this week…she is growing up so fast! My baby has only been with me for 3 months and I want to freeze her at this age.  She is doing all sorts of new things this week.  She has started eating table food.  She has started pulling up to stand.  She is bonding more to Daddy, which is a good thing.  She is so busy now playing that she at times doesn’t want to stop and cuddle with Mommy – normally she was perfectly happy to stop any activity if it meant that she would be held by mommy.  I just feel like in a blink of an eye she won’t be my baby anymore.

Daddy’s attempt to get her to stop watching the fish behind them and look at the camera.

Cooking for a group of 20 is a challenge!

Even the little ones are charmed by Sabrina

Sabrina was mesmerized by the ocean today. She just quietly stared at the water while I held her for an hour.

Holiday Road…

While our house doesn’t have free high speed internet…our neighbor’s does.  So we are stealing borrowing a bit of their bandwidth.

Before we left, Sabrina discovered the joy of the Johnny Jumper while mommy frantically threw things into suitcases.  This picture cracks me up!

This is hour 5 of day 2 on the road.  Somehow we moved south but ended up 3 hours farther from the beach.  Total travel time, excluding hotel stop?  16 hours.  Ugh.  Sabrina says “Are we there yet?”

Sabrina’s sun hat matches nothing else but she looks so freaking cute in it!

Ignore the painfully white woman in this photo:

Sabrina wasn’t particularly happy sitting in the sad and the cold ocean water also mad her a bit angry.

After getting used to the water, she decided that the pool was much more her speed than the ocean.

How stinking cute is she?

Friday the 13th

Friday, July 13th, 2007

First, I have to show off a couple of photos of Miss Sabrina.  The first 2 I took to include with a thank you note to my cousin for the dress and toy but they are cute and I know you all need your Sabrina fix.

These 2 I am posting for Aunt Rusty.  Aunt Rusty bought Sabrina a bunch of outfits – each of them had a matching hat.  I thought I would show off Sabrina modeling her hat for Aunt Rusty this morning.

We leave in less than 12 hours for our annual beach vacation.  It snuck up on me this year.  Every year we rent a big house at the Outer Banks with a group of Steve’s childhood friends for a week.  This year, with the addition of Sabrina, the children officially out number the adults (oh yes, they are a fertile bunch lol).  We have 9 adults and 10 children this year.  The oldest child is 8.  Sabrina will be the youngest this year.  As you can imagine, the volume level in our beach house around 4 pm is deafening.  The trip has changed over the years.  Everyone used to put the kids to bed before it was dark and we adults would spend the balance of the evening playing games and drinking.  Now, some of the kids stay up later, bedtime takes longer, we are all tired at the end of the day…yada yada, yada.  About 1/2 of the adults wind up in bed shortly after the kids do.  Very little drinking is done but we do usually manage to play a game or two each evening.   It is just a function of getting older and our growing families but it makes for a tamer trip each year.

Our house claims to have internet access.  If this is true and it isn’t dial up (Corolla is pretty shaky on technology…you have to stand on one foot in the north corner of the driveway while singing Friar Jacques to get 1 bar of cell phone reception), I will try to do a couple of posts next week.  I know there are several grandmas out there who can’t wait to see Sabrina’s cutie patootie in a swimsuit.  But if it is dial up, forget it.  So you might not hear from me until next Sunday…or you might see a post as soon as this Sunday or Monday.

I have to admit it is pretty darn exciting to have Sabrina with us this year.  Two years ago, we were actively trying to conceive and last year we had decided to adopt.  During the past 2 years, we’ve imagined it was our last year without a child with us.  We would take a nap and say “we better enjoy this now, because next year…” or I would lounge around reading a book and say “I won’t be able to do this when a little one comes along…”.  We finally are making the trip to the beach as a family.  That’s pretty damn cool.

I love these old ads…totally crack me up.

First up, Lysol for feminine hygiene.

And then the health benefits of lard – who knew there was a lard information council?

And I love a man who blows smoke right in my face:

And finally, I’ve sometimes joked about getting a tapeworm for weight loss but I wouldn’t really do it. Well maybe since they are sanitized…

On the move

Sabrina wasn’t cooperating with crawling photos today so I only have a couple to share.

Sabrina has been showing a preference for mommy when she is upset and needs to be comforted.  This usually includes bedtime.  While I am thrilled that she is finally showing a preference for me, it is hurtful to Steve when he can’t comfort her.  He knows it will take time but that doesn’t stop it from being rather frustrating.  She loves daddy for fun stuff so she isn’t rejecting him – she just wants mommy at bedtime or when she is upset.  We’ve decided we will try doing the dinner, bath, bedtime routine together for awhile and see if that helps her decide it is okay for daddy to put her down.

And she is off!

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Miss Sabrina finally decided she is ready to crawl.  Yikes.  Mommy is scared!

I, of course, missed her inaugrial crawl…but Daddy got to witness it and immediately called me in for the encore performance.  She didn’t go far but it was definite crawling rather than the scooting she has been doing for weeks.  I’ll try and get some photos tomorrow.

And how impressed are all of you?  In the midst of all of the craziness of coming home, packing, and moving, I ordered adoption announcements and sent them out last week.  I didn’t send out too many because I knew I wouldn’t have time to get them all addressed so for all of my cyber friends here is the announcement (like you weren’t aware of the adoption being finalized anyway – you are all more up on the happenings of our adoption than many family and friends).announcement.jpg

Inside we printed a little more info about the adoption and a thank you the family and friends for their support during the process.  I made these on Shutterfly…I found sites with much cuter announcements but I wasn’t willing to pay their prices.

Looking at the photos on the announcements, I was a little sad to realize she has moved out of her camera ham phase.  I don’t get those big smiles very often when I pull out the camera – I usually get closed eyes and no smile these days.  Hopefully she’ll decide to become a ham again soon – she was great to photograph while we were in Antigua.

Number 2

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

We have tooth number 2 just days after the first!  Her bottom front teeth have both broken through – that must be the reason for this face/attitude from the past several days:

And every time I try to get a photo of the new teeth for her grandmas, she does this:

But here are a couple photos that you can see her pearly white tips:

Those suckers are sharp!

The dog continues to try and figure out what to make of this little person.

He is a good boy.  Sabrina scooted over and stuck her hand in his food dish while he was eating and he didn’t even growl – just kept eating around her hand (Daddy turned his head for 30 seconds – we don’t normally do experiments like that to see what would happen).  But the stuffed kitties out there need to be on guard…oh the carnage!  Big Mean Kitty loses his last arm:

And just a couple of more photos from the last couple of days:

Still refusing to crawl until she is good and ready:

And my baby has learned to hold her own bottle with some accuracy now (sniff, sniff):
