Let’s Pretend

November8

The coolest thing has started to happen in the past few weeks.  Sabrina has started to pretend.  Grandma was the first one to point it out when she was visiting.  She pretends to pick something up and hand it to you and then takes the imaginary item back.  I just thought she had dropped whatever small item she had found before she tried to hand it to me.  But after watching her with Grandma, we realized she was pretending.  It is so fun to see her starting to play in new ways.  She will pretend to take food out of the bowl on her activity table and eat it.  She will pretend to drink out of the mustard and ketchup bottles that came with her little shopping cart.  And she will talk to her little stuffed animals and dolls.

I forget sometimes how fast she is learning.  If I try to play with a toy with her or play a little game with her and it is above her level, I often don’t try again for a month or so.  I forget that a week can make a real difference in her skills at this age.  I sing “If you are happy and you know it” to her but she never joined in on the clapping – this morning she started clapping along with me.  Poor child – probably decided to clap to drown out my bad singing.

I love, love, love, her hair in the ponies! With that outfit, and the hair, she looks so grown up.

They do change fast. Reese pretends to drive his tractor, and tofix the vacum. Now, if he would just vacuum (I never can remember how to spell that!)

Isn’t watching these babies grow and learn just the greatest thing? I think it’s so fun to see how they pick up stuff just from seeing us do it.
    Geniuses, I tell you.

I do that too. I try something and then if it is over her head I make a mental note to try it again next month. The biggest surprise to me with kids is that you have to teach them how to play. I don’t think Piney would have just intuitively known how to put on a tea party with her bears unless I had shown her first.

Hee hee…I LOVE it when kids pretend…that last pic really put a smile on my face.

And, Michelle…first time mommy to first time mommy…I think you’re really doing a terrific job.

It is so amazing how much they pick up, isn’t it?? Gabriella now likes to wipe things up with a towel or napkin and she puts stuff in the garbage. Today, I swear she was singing into something like a microphone, but I honestly have no clue where she would have picked that up. I’ve never done that with her and she watches no television to speak of.
