Lord Byron won’t get out of my head

November15

It has started.  Miss Sabrina has taken her first unassisted steps.  In the past couple of days she has started standing up without needing to grab onto something for help and today she took 4 steps to me without help.  She did it several times and was quite pleased with herself.  I am a little scared.

Other than the walking, it wasn’t a great mommy day.  Just one of those days when I feel like all I do is wipe poop and figure out what to feed her.  The whining had the nerve in my eyebrow twitching all afternoon.  She was demanding food every 2 hours today and I was having trouble being creative.  And does anyone else ever have days where they swear they can smell poop all day long?  I kept checking my clothes because I was sure I was wearing some but never found it.

I always feel a little guilty when I have a bad mommy day – I feel like I should be Mary freaking Poppins and always smiling because I have the joy of spending the day with my beautiful daughter.  But some days that mommy flask is dry and I don’t feel very perky.  It was cold and rainy today so I’ll blame the weather.

How long do turkeys take to defrost in the frig?  I haven’t made one in several years and I just realized I might want to go and buy one and stick it in the frig soon.  I LOVE Thanksgiving!

Don’t feel bad for the frumpy mommy days! I understand how you feel. I have had several lately myself to be honest. I just feel like I cook, clean, wipe poop, clean up food off of the floor and for what? to do it all over again in an hour. The weather is a factor there too! And, the whining I am with you there! Sounds like it is time for a mommy breather!!

STEPS?? YEAH. Be scared, verry, very, scared. But, congratulations on your accomplishment Sabrina. You are a big girl now. It is a whole new world.

I didn’t find walking any more difficult than crawling. It’s actually more entertaining to watch. Good for Sabrina!

Congratulations Miss Sabrina! I do believe it is one day in fridge to defrost for every 5 pounds! I do however always give myself one extra day because Ms. Chef I am not, and I can just see me being the one to put the turkey in the oven during our family time and find it frozen in the middle!

    Good luck, Rhonda

We don’t know each other but I swear we are kindred spirits (I too am a social worker and the whole guatadopt thing..among other idosyncracys we both seem to have)..anyway..bad mommy days are hard for me too..and I totally get the smelling poop thing! I always say my mommy vessel is empty when I feel like that. Can’t pour water from an empty vessel and I can’t pour mommy action out of one either. I felt that way today the third time Jonas threw a toy at me. Instead of flicking off..I snatched him up and put him in the stroller and walked around the block a few times. Did us both some good. Its hard being a full time SAHM…we can be grateful and crispy (burnt out) at the same time. Take a nice bubble bath… you’ll have a whole day tommorrow to try again.

Depends on the size of turkey, but 2 days should be enough.
    I love Thanksgiving too.
Yup, have had those kind of days. Have the shirt, burned it ( with the poopie diapers)

it must be going around…i could smell poop all day yesterday, too. the whining is THE WORST. my strategy is to have us all go to bed a little early. some days that’s all i’ve got.

or tv. we might watch cartoons all morning when i’m fried. like, say, today. is it somehow more acceptable that it’s PBS??

Yeah Sabrina! I was terrified of walking too that she was going to get hurt, but it went well. Wait until the running starts.

I totally relate to the Mommy tank being on empty. Sometimes I feel like I just am not getting it right. That is usually when we put in a movie and cuddle on the couch (if you have the cuddle bug type). I always appreciate what I have, but all days can’t be a fairy tale. We are very lucky, but it is reality and we are raising toddlers. Hang in there!

Sorry I don’t have any turkey advice. I don’t like turkey and I have never made a whole turkey.

    Good luck!

How exciting that Miss S. is starting to walk!! It really is a lot of fun. You just have to watch where she falls. 🙂

Turkey – no clue – never cooked one. (and no one would want me to cook one!!)

When Alex has been in his “I want to eat all the time” mood, I usually just make him a bowl of items he can snack on and let him come and go to the bowl as he wants to. It made it much easier on me, and he loved the independence.

Here’s hoping your mommy vessel gets at least partially refilled today!

Hey – we’re just walking here this week, too!
I’ll try to catch a video of it…. can you do the same?
Hope you’re having a better day today!

Figure a good 4 days in the fridge. I haven’t defrosted a frozen turkey in years. I buy them fresh from the local butcher. Soooooo much easier.

Congrats to Sabrina. I’m still waiting for Lilly and Emerson to walk (Sabrina and Emerson share the same b-day, Lilly’s 3 days older). I think Lilly will walk first. I’m also a little scared of them starting to walk.
I hope you are having a better day today. I totally understand even though I’m not lucky enough to be a SAHM, but working part time is ok sometimes. Sometimes I look forward to my break from the mommy role and other times I’d kill to be a SAHM. Lately there’s been more of the later.

    Yeah for Sabrina.

Oh yeah, my mommy tank has been running on fumes a lot of days lately……

I have always found those stupid turkeys take FOREVER and then another day to defrost. I was thinking of getting a fresh one this year so I don’t have to deal with it.

You aren’t Mary Poppins? Geez. I am. Especially when I get to change a lot of poopy diapers. I know what you mean- sometimes I have to wash my hands like 10X to get the smell away.

    Congrats on Sabrina’s steps!

I had that poop day TODAY. seriously i kept lifting my poor baby up every 5-10 minutes to smell his butt. LOL. and then to add insult to injury after 5 hours of this he DID poop out of his diaper, his onesie, his PANTS and when i went to undress him it got on MY pants. did i make it happen?

The idea of the walking is scary, isn’t it? Oh, and S’s hair is getting so long and yes, even cuter…she is looking like a little girl.
