Quick Baby Update
I saw my new (non-crazy) doctor again today. I heart her. I heart everything about her office – there are staff! and other pregnant ladies! and no one makes me cry! She laughed when I said it was my first experience with the fetal heartbeat monitor. Seriously, Doc Crazy gave me an ultrasound at every single appointment (she could charge my insurance significantly more for that). My new (non-crazy) doctor took me off yet another prescription today. I’ve gone from 7 pills a day (1 pre-natal, 2 antibiotics, 3 progesterone, and 1 iron) with Doc Crazy to 2 (1 pre-natal and 1 antibiotic) with new (non-crazy) doctor. I hate taking medication so that makes me quite happy.
Everything still looks good with Tessa. She was originally going to start my weekly appointments at 30 weeks to do non-stress tests but decided that everything is going well enough that she would wait until 32 weeks to start that.
And my saga with Doc Crazy isn’t quite over yet. She randomly sent me a bill this week for $3500. No indication what the bill is for other than “Outstanding balance”. I sent her a little note suggesting she itemize the bill and submit it to my insurance before billing me directly for whatever crazy things she thinks I might owe her for. My insurance covered all of the services that she billed them minus a few dollars here and there that I paid along the way. I’m curious to see how this plays out…is there an entity that can mediate billing disputes with private doctors? Because I’m not paying Doc Crazy a cent unless she can prove to me it is legitimate.

Oh that would be classic! Regardless I am so happy you found a new non crazy doctor!!!!
She definetly owes you an itemized bill for the amount she sent you and some kind of explanation as to whether insurance denied it or not. If insurance denied it, you should have received an Estimate of Benefits from them showing they paid $0 on whatever she billed them. You can call your insurance and inquire as to if there was something she billed them for that they didn’t cover. $3500 is a lot of money for them just to not cover and you not notice.

Wow. That woman is certifiably LOONY. So glad you jumped ship. If she participates with your insurance, she has to bill them first. Did you sign some kind of agreement that you’d be responsible for non-covered services? (Wouldn’t put it past her to have slipped that in…) Still, dispute it. There are tons of resources if she acts even more CRAZY and won’t be reasonable. You could try your state medical society, better business bureau, etc.
Hey! I got a random bill from Doc Crazy a YEAR (yes, a year) after Maggie was born. Part of the problem is that she doesn’t report stuff correctly to the insurance, and e just sends you a bill saying you owe $X and at least my bill was that vague – no itemization or anything. If you have to get involved with your insurance, and you probaby will (it will work out to your benefit in the end), make sure they have you classified as a “High risk pregnancy” which is why the doc is charging so much. If the insurance doesn’t know that or record it, they will not cover some of her crazy fees. I’m glad you like your new doctor!
