Quickie

I am still here…lurking around the net when I can but usually only with one hand so comments are sparse.  I owe many thank yous for gifts and I try to respond to commenters who are new or those I don’t hear from often but all of that has been put on the back burner.  Please know that I appreciate all of the comments, well wishes and gifts more than I can say.

I hope to do a post soon where I can actually talk about something more than how incredibly over the moon in love I am with this tiny baby – but so far haven’t had the time or brain capacity to do so.

Tessa had her first doctor appointment yesterday.  She is down to 6lbs 2oz so our assignment for this week is to get her back up to birth weight.  She also has some jaundice but the test revealed the level didn’t require any medical intervention…it should clear up on its own soon.  Although the doctor did say we should call if she turned pumpkin orange.  Thanks for the tip doc, I might not have called if you hadn’t suggested that was a problem.

I’m going to try and get some sleep.  I actually got about 6 hours last night (not in a row of course) so things are getting a little better in that department.

Congrats on your beautiful baby girl! She is a doll. And I agree that her feet are adorable in the sleeper with the ballerina shoes on her feet. I’m glad Sabrina has gone from hitting her forehead to petting it. You have a beautiful family. I’m so happy for you! Congrats again!

Cassie had the jaundice and weight loss. Your milk must be in now. She will pork back up, and her color will get better too. OH, if she turns blue you should call them too–in case you didn’t think of that!!!

Just to reassure you, a 10% weight loss is considered normal so she’s right at that percentage.
For most BF newborns it takes a full 2 weeks to gain enough weight back to meet their birthweight again. So you’ve got a full week yet!
Also, be aware that not only did YOU have extra fluid on you to lose, but those same circumstances also put extra “water weight” on her, so a lot of the weight loss is probably because she was “pumped up” with those extra fluids before birth and is just sloughing all that off. So it’s not like that 11oz is all fat loss or anything 🙂
The jaundice is normal too but can make them sleepy so just make sure not to let her sleep through any feedings (except a nice stretch at night if she lets you, of course 😉

Congrats again you are doing wonderfully! I’ve been checking often for updates, but I’m actually glad you are spending so much time with your new family rather than the computer 🙂

Emily had jaundice also. We were told to sit inside in a sunny window with her a little. I guess its common in BF babies. I always had trouble staying awake during night feedings. Guess thats how they ended up BFing all night off and on while I slept. Bad Momma.
Tessa is too stinking precious…makes me want another.

They told us to call if his eyes were yellow – which we did – TWICE. And he never tested about medical-invertention levels. Weird. He stayed yellow-ish for almost six weeks it seemed. I felt like they should be more worried, but they weren’t. Stupid doctors.

Hang in there. It’s been 10 weeks for me and I’m still out of it.

Mmm-hmmm! ‘Glad you’re relishing those sweet, sweet moments with your Tessa girl. I know it’s kind of bizarre to be doing this for the “first time” – not having had those early days with Sabrina. Enjoy and revel in it – so cool that your children have their own unique stories. (My exp. is also that the first 6 months with a newborn and toddler come down to mere survival so don’t feel bad if you feel like a non-human most days). And don’t feel like you have to write me back 😉

Congratulations! I have been a longtime reader but haven’t commented that often. What a beautiful new addition to your already beautiful family! We adopted our son from Colombia last year (I followed your adoption of Sabrina while we were waiting for our referral). I surprisingly found myself pregnant this year and am 34 weeks now (after years of IF)!
I have enjoyed following your blog and wish you and your family all the best!!

I’m amazed at how much is on your blog at all! Love the photos – Tessa is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Yes, as other readers have said fluid levels drop and is normal. I know it’s hard with Sabrina, but try to sleep when Tessa sleeps – that’s the only key to survival. No cleaning, cooking or laundry for you. I understand that instant love and adoration but so love reading about it – takes me back. So so special. Love to you all.
