Teaching my children to question authority, except mine.

Flying Solo

August13

This was this scene this morning as Grandma left for the airport:

Both Angus and Sabrina were quite sad to see her go.  I’ve heard “Mimi?” (Sabrina’s closest attempt at Grandma) no fewer than 437 times this morning.  We’ve had several meltdowns – twice I just looked her way and she crumpled to the floor sobbing.  Sabrina has enjoyed all of the individual attention from Abuela and then Grandma and is now trying to cope with it just being frazzled, tired Mommy in the house.  Mommy is trying to juggle the needs of both girls so that no one feels forgotten without teaching them that whoever screams the loudest gets my attention first.

Grandma taught Sabrina to say “my, my, my” with her hands to her cheeks – too funny and cute:

And Tessa has checked out her bouncy seat now that there are 2 fewer hands in the house:

Grandma and Sabrina enjoyed some shopping at the mall yesterday while Tessa and I went to the doctors.  First, she saw her pediatrician.  After our 1 hour and 45 minute wait last week to see him, I was steeling myself for another long session of walking and bouncing to soothe Tessa.  I was pleasantly surprised to be in and out in less than an hour this week.  She is almost back to birth weight (6lb 11oz) so she is gaining a little more than an ounce a day which pleased him.  We’ll go back for another weight check in 2 weeks just to be sure.  Her jaundice is just about gone completely and all of her initial blood work looked good.  Then we went to my OB for a quick check of my incision.  All was well in that department too.  She wanted to be sure that I was coping okay emotionally.  I assured her that I get quite teary now and then but it is a “OMG, she is too sweet and perfect” or “Sabrina is going to need therapy because I’ve been ignoring her for 2 weeks” teary rather than “I’m going to cook my kids in the microwave because I can’t take it anymore” teary so I think we are good so far in that department too.  (That is not me making fun of PPD – I take that very seriously and am hopeful that I won’t have to deal with such a difficult thing.  It is very real and very scary.  So stand down – no hate mail and flaming comments necessary.)

My my my… those are some seriously cute girls!! Hope you are surviving those first few tiring days of being alone with your two angels! Sorry that Abuela and Mimi have left the building… hope you are able to nap when they nap (haha – like that really ever happens)!

Glad the doctor visits went well too!

Oh my gosh, that first picture is one pitiful sight…. Sabrina will soon put mommy back up in her top 2(ok, maybe top 5, I guess we have leave room for Angus, daddy, Tessa and both grandmas) soon I’m sure.

Glad to hear everyone is checking out ok! I wish I were closer to offer up some relief(though with my wild child in tow, probably wouldn’t be to relieving!).

The first picture of Sabrina and Angus just breaks your heart – I bet if Grandma had seen that she would have turned right around!! LOL!!

In every picture you have posted of Tessa, she has been Steve’s mini-me, but this one today you can really see YOUR reflection in her 🙂 I’ve only “met” your family on your blog and in photos so I can imagine how the resemblence shows up in real life! She’s such a beauty – both of your girls are 🙂

The fact that you are aware and sensitive to Sabrina’s feelings with the new baby makes you a great mom in my mind. You will find your balance with all this I am sure. Your love for Sabrina is reflected in the entries of this blog.

I’ve already started the book of pictures for Gabriela’s therapy sessions! It includes last year’s Santa photo where she is screaming for mommy. I sent it out as a Christmas card!

Love the pics – they are both too precious. Hope you will still get some rest.

So many comments I want to make, so little time.
    1. X chose “Mimi” as his moniker for the g-mas as well. I love it because (a) it’s different but not too different, and (b) X came up with it himself.
    2. Tessa is breathtaking. Makes me want to have another one asap.
    3. Sabrina? Well, don’t you just fall on your knees with gratitude every day that she came home to you?
    4. Close your eyes and hang on tight. For me, the first 6 months after S arrived were sheer survival. You can do it. Just remember you aren’t alone in the madness.

AAAHHH the I love her so much tears. I remember those.

Hope the solo mission gets in sync soon. OH, and they will soon learn that whoever screams louder gets your attention first. It is inevitable.

Glad Tessa is porking out!! So, I take it she never turned orange??

You are doing marvelously. Just hang on for the ride the next few months, it is difficult, but so very much worth it. Your girls are so gourgeous and you are so blessed.

Bouncy seats rock. They give your arms a break. And I hope Sabrina gets used to the idea of being a big sister really soon.

I think you are doing a really good job. I would be crying about how I would handle two on my own!! I would also have Mimi and Abuela on speed dial!! LOL

OMG, that first pic of sabrina and puppy is just priceless. I’m willing to bet that once Mimi sees that pic she’ll be on her way back to TN pretty quickly 🙂

What sweet pics!! I never ever dreamed I would deal with the “baby blues” having adopted my children – but OMG, it hit me extremely hard when we adopted Nicolai!
