Teaching my children to question authority, except mine.

The girls both had doctor appointments yesterday.  I had to hold them both down for shots.  Sigh…it is just wrong to make a momma do that to her babies.  Sabrina is just shy of 24 lbs. Tessa is up to 10 lb 4 oz.

********

I think January was my last haircut.  I got my hair cut at the paint your own pottery place here in town.  Did I mention our new town is rather rural?  The paint your own pottery shop has a little corner room with a sink and mirror and chair.  The space is smaller than my walk in closet.  The stylist did a good job but I forgot my northern to southern dictionary.  When she asked if I wanted my highlights to be subtle so people didn’t really see them or noticeable I answered noticeable.  Up north if I said subtle, I would end up with so few highlights I would end up wondering why I had spent an hour in the salon.  But apparently “noticeable” in southern hair negates the word “highlights”.  My hair completely changed color.  I like it – it just takes a little getting used to.  I haven’t been this blond since I was a child.  And she cut off about 7 inches of hair…so Steve did a double take when I walked in last night.

Before (I’ve been wearing it up because there has been no discernable style for the past 6 months)

After (please ignore the spacey look on my face – it was getting late and I was tired)

The woman said I had “Marcia Brady hair”.  What in the world does that mean?

********

Steve and I had our Big! Night! Out! while my mom was here.  We found ourselves at dinner talking about various aspects of changing Sabrina’s diaper.  The subject was promptly changed.  We both had 2 drinks and didn’t have to color on a menu with or cut up food for anyone.  I don’t think the restaurant even had crayons.  The movie was cute but most importantly was watched uninterrupted.  We were home by 9pm.

********

Tessa is a sweet baby but we call 7 – 9 pm the witching hours.  She often cries inconsolably.  It is a little frustrating and very heartbreaking to hear her wail and be unable to soothe her.  Describing Tessa’s evening fits, the doctor declared it was “classic colic”.  Colic had crossed my mind but I figured it had to be much worse to be colic.  We had friends with a colicky baby and when they described it years later it sounded so miserable that I couldn’t believe they had gone on to have more children.  Tessa’s must be mild.  Not fun but certainly not as horrible (knock on wood) as I’ve heard other parents describe.

********

Last night, I went out for 2 hours to get my hair done.  This weekend I will leave for most of Saturday to attend Blissdom ’08 (I believe there are still a few seats if anyone local is interested).  It is a little frightening to me how foreign and luxurious it feels to leave the house alone.

I LOVE your hair! It looks great!!!!! It really does!

It sounds like Gabbie and Sabrina are about the exact same size. I don’t know about you, but Gabbie sure feels a TON heavier than 24 pounds but I guess the scale doesn’t lie, except for when I step on it:)

How nice you all had a night out. Our anniversary is 11-3 and I think we may have a night out too! I can’t wait!

    Love the hair!!

Poor Mama, Daddy, and Tessa. That is a tough time of night–then add a 2 year old to the mix. Makes me need a drink! She should be over it soon—hopefully. It is so hard when they are crying and you can do nothing about it. Have you tried gas drops?? They were the wonder drug in my house. We actually gave them to Cassie before she nursed, and it helped with the gas bubbles. But, I was blessed with all three–no colic. Well, at least from the little I saw of Reese at those ages he didn’t have any.

Glad you had a fun night out!

    Looking sexy!

Colic, hmm, I am not a doctor by any means but I do remember both my boys having the 7 pm – 9 pm fussy’s. I thought it was colic too, but our Dr. said most babies go thru it and then they grow out of it. Which one did, the other had more issues (after months of trying different reflux meds, formulas, etc.) it seemed he just had a milk intolerance which thank goodness at 1 yr. old he grew out of when we went from formula to cow’s milk.

We used the gas drops also as Bobbi mentioned and yes, I remember it helping. But I wouldn’t worry too much it does stop. Have you gone thru that “stage” when they get their days & nights confused yet? That’s a fun one!!!

LOVE the hair! You look wonderful, but you did with the up-do as well. The highlights look amazing too. Remember, in the South we do things bigger and better. Lesson learned, however, the color is terrific.

Sorry to hear about Tessa, I hope this is only for a few days more and then voila, happy baby all the time.

The hair looks MARVELOUS. But, what I am wondering is why OH WHY of all the places you chose the paint your own pottery place??? I have heard that she is good, but the Natural Oasis did not appeal to you one bit? That really cracked me up because it seems so backwards-huh?

Your hair is fantastic! And I’m sorry the little one is having some witching hours. If it’s any consolation, those are Lyla’s worst hours too. And it’s especially hard on her Daddy as it’s right when he gets home from work and all he wants to do is hang out with her. They’ll eventually outgrow it, right? Someone told me that…

M had the 7-9 fussies till she was about 4-5 mos old. I was afraid to let anyone into the house between those hours for fear of scaring them away forever. It will pass. I swear, M doesn’t scream anymore between 7 and 9 (ok, she is YEARS old now, but…)

I love the hair, you southern belle, you.

The hair looks great! Not exactly highlights though. LOL

Yeah, my pedi told me most babies go through that really fussy period each night. They outgrow it by around 4 months old.

“Colic” is just a word that means they don’t know why your kid is screaming all the time. The true definition of colic is that is begin within the first three weeks of life, last at least three hours a day, occur at least three days a week, continue for at least three weeks. And yes, it does make you question ever having more babies. LOL But a lot of people say that baby is colicky even though they are not meeting that criteria.

DH’s cousin’s little one had bad reflux/colic/whatever you want to call it. She put her on probiotics and after a week she noticed a huge difference she said. I’ve also had firends who cut dairy out of their diet and noticed a big change after about a week. There is a protien in cow’s milk that lots of babies can’t handle even if it’s going through the mom’s milk and espeically in regular (cow based) formula. Goat dairy and soy alternatives are easier on the system.

    Hope she outgrows it quickly!
