Overheard
December 16th, 2008At Starbuck’s – a boy around 10 with his mother who was my age.
“You know about Guns ‘N Roses?! No way!”
I love those moments when kids get an inkling that their parents might have existed and had a life before they were born.

My 9 year old daughter almost dropped out of her chair when I told her we didn’t have computers (in homes) or internet when I was her age. And that we had no cell phones, not even cordless phones in the house. And that when I was little, we only had 4 t.v. channels (the big 3 networks and PBS). It was like I had told her I was raised in a cave and ate squirrels.

My question is, how did the 10 year old know about Guns and Roses? Are they still around??

My nephews are now going to concerts and seeing the same bands that I saw in high school. This is even before the Gun and Rose’s era.
Good Rock and Roll (maybe not so much Guns and Rose’s) never dies!!!

I was wondering the same thing Anne asked. I didn’t think a 10-year old would know about Guns ‘n Roses.

They just released a new album. I probably wouldn’t know that but it was a big deal because Dr. Pepper said they would give a free soda to everyone in the country when GNR released a new album. It was a fiasco on their website trying to give away coupons for free soda (surprise, surprise). It also pissed off China because the name of the album was “Chinese Democracy” or something like that.

The biggest shock for me was the first time I tuned in the “oldies” station and just got music from the 80s…
