Time for change

January20

Obama is being sworn in today – I am very excited about that and curious to see what it will mean for our country.  But I’m talking about change at a local level.

Miss Tessa is no longer my little babe.  She is growing and changing constantly.  The bumbo which has been such a fabulous way to contain her is on its way out.  Why, you ask?  She is still shy of 6 months old you say?

Sabrina used her bumbo until she was 8 1/2 months old and NEVER did this. I quit using it because she hated it and started screaming the second I put her in it at that age and because her thighs barely fit in the leg openings anymore.  But she never almost threw herself out of it.

We are amazed at how different Tessa and Sabrina are.  Sabrina was rather lazy about learning.  She didn’t learn to sit, crawl, stand or walk until she saw the benefit in it for her.  Tessa does things just because she can or thinks she can.

Tessa has just reached the point of truly enjoying the exesaucer.  She loves to bounce and stomp her feet.

Here is Sabrina in the same exesaucer at 9 months:

Sigh…my babies need to stop growing up.  We moved Tessa out of her bassinet because she was getting too big for it and because she was getting too mobile for it.  She is sleeping in a pack n play now on Steve’s side of the bed – baby steps toward moving her out of our room eventually.  I cried.  Steve, trying not to laugh at me, asked why I was crying and I said “Because that is the first step to her getting her own apartment.”  At which point Steve quit trying not to laugh.

Tessa is growing up!! She is going to be on the move early. I think our Guat-babies took their time because they were cuddled so much in Guat. At least Reese was– I don’t think she ever put him down. I’m not complaining. That pic of Sabrina–I remember those. She has gotten so big!!

Good luck with moving Tessa…….it isn’t easy to let go!!

My PG flipped herself over in the Bumbo when she was 5 months, so you have to give it up early for the wild ones 🙂 She sure looks cute doing that twist move though!

Gabriella used her Bumbo a grand total of about 3 times. Just like Tessa, she liked to hurl herself out. I hope for your sake it’s not a sign of things to come. Miss G wears me out!!! And those little things early on were a sign…

I did laugh at the end…but I feel your pain. Every one of their “accomplishments” moves them a little tiny step away from us. And I’m resisting EVERY step of the way!

good thing that tessa does not know you left her hanging there while you went to get your camera mama blogger.

one time jon came running out of the bedroom laughing “get the camera!” i followed him in to find that julian had the space heater cord wrapped around his neck twice and was trying to plug it in. it was cute but, um…

and yes i understand the bumbo pic is not the same thing but i felt compelled to share.

now go take your turn. 😉

Okay, I’m with Steve…I laughed at you on that one too.

And it is probably a second child thing. Other than walking, C has done everything before J did. He watches J and wants to do it all. I’m sure Tessa is doing the same.

That last bit made me laugh out loud! Glad you still have your sense of humor. 🙂

It is sad to see your babies grow up. I love to see Serena getting dressed herself but it’s sad at the same time. I feel your pain.

Oh my gosh! They are so precious! And yes, your kids (and my kid for that matter) are growing up WAY too fast.

Tommy popped out (literally…popped himself right out) of his Bumbo when he was 6.5 months old while we were still in Antigua. It freaked me out because he had made no effort to escape it so I always set it on my bed with him in it while I was getting dressed. I turned my back to him for no more than 10 seconds and turned around to see that he had gotten out of it and was rolling around on the bed. We used it for another month (with my eyes constantly on him) and then left it in Guate.

I can’t believe Tessa is already so mobile. Other than the Bumbo issue, Tommy was
S-L-O-W at all of those beginning baby things, but like Bobbi, I think it was mostly because he was in Guate for 7 months and never put down…he just didn’t have the chance to learn to do any thing on his own. Tessa will be chasing Sabrina around the house before you know it….funny, you think you have your hands full now…:)

    Miss Mikki,

Your kids are beautiful!!! I have to give a shout out to Steve. Mike let Emily stay in our room for exactly 1 month after she got home from the hospital. Then he tolerated me sneaking out of bed and sleeping in her room, on the floor next to her crib for about two weeks. Then he strapped me in the bed, Joan Crawford style. Much love to all of you!!

Exersaucers are the best! Aidan loved playing in his! The last comment made me laugh because I told my husband the very same thing when we moved aidan to his room. First his own room, then kindergarten, then the next thing you know they are off to college! The time really does fly by and it makes me stop and enjoy the little things every single day! Really enjoy reading your blog. I have been lurking for quite some time now and have decided to delurk. LOL

My baby boy was born on July 16 and started doing that same thing with his Bumbo about 4 weeks ago. Actually he fell out of his bumbo onto the table (luckily it wasn’t off the table onto the floor). My bumbo has a tray that I attach to it when I feed him, but he still tries to escape as soon as he’s done! It’s now time to move him into the high chair =(.
