Less of a recipe…
July 5th, 2009…more of a suggestion.
Buy a hunk of ham. Then get some nice fresh green beans and some red potatoes. Cut them all up and throw them into the crockpot. Cover with water and cook on low for about 8 hours. Some kind of magic happens in the dark of the crockpot and it tastes amazing – fresh, yummy – kind of like how summer should taste. And as a bonus you can eat the leftovers for days. (That is a good thing, I promise.)

Just so you all know – the photo looks like it is all ham and potatoes. I cut up the beans first so they were all on the bottom.

Leftovers are always welcome here. They come in handy when it’s an hour past the kids’ regular lunch hour and they are whining about starving and I’m trying to get a bunch of stuff done. Yay leftovers!!

I bet it is wonderful and I just happen to have red potatoes and green beans on hand.

My mom made ham/potato/string beans last time we were home. Simple, PA Dutch country food. Love it.

Okay, I am totally making this tomorrow. I hate how hot the kitchen gets in the summer and I also can’t think of anything to make lately that doesn’t require the stove or oven. So this will keep the kitchen nice and cool – and it’s 3 ingredients that all 4 of my kids like. You’re a genius I tell ya!

My favorite kind of recipe – dump in crockpot and when you get home, eat it.
